Best way to hardwire a walbro 450?

So when we were tuning the car the fuel pump was maxing out.. a walbro 450 should be able to support wayy more then 500whp. so im gonna pull it out and inspect the O-Ring and at the same time hard wire it. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? What gauge wire, what relay, configuration, etc. Thanks in advance!

Ted B and Mrfred have some good psots abotu re-wiring fuel pumps.

From my experience with the 450, it does not work much better if any over a 255 unless you supply it with a good power and ground wiring. Think we used a 6 gauge wire when we rewired it.

Cool I'll look those up. I couldn't find an actual "how to" anywhere that is why i posted. I was thinking about using like 12 gauge speaker wire

mrfred has a how to. You don't want to fully hardwire it. You want it to still be wired in to the factory low voltage, and the hardwire the high voltage side. mrfred uses a hobbs switch to activate it. When I wired mine, I wire it into the factory high voltage relay to activate the hardwire. and good 10g wire is sufficient.

Morgan I need to do a hardwire as well. We should meet up and knock out both our cars at the same time

I agree that preserving the factory low speed option is preferable, although not mandatory. One way or another, to realize the full capability of this pump, you will need a relay (e.g. 30A), heavy gauge power and ground wiring, and upgraded fuel lines (both feed and return).

I recommend 8 AWG, especially if the battery is at the front of the car.

Just FYI

I'd have to go look at it again, I don't remember exactly how it went. I'll post it up tonight.

Ok so i got it hardwired last night but i didnt hardwire in the factory low voltage. Only did high voltage, and it produces so much fuel pressure at idle that it seems to blow open the stock fpr causing pressure loss... I figured this out because i actually had to clamp the fuel feed line to get the car home... I had to clamp it just enough so that it slowed down the amount of fuel going to the rail.. Lol. Looks like its time for a FPR upgrade!!

The FPR is not the problem. Are you attempting to hardwire this pump with the flimsy OE feed/return lines, or ... ?

Yes you should get a FPR, drill the pump siphon and maybe upgrade the return line. Read this:
