AFAIK it's normal to have a little bit of shavings in there, yours might have a bit more than average, little hard to tell from the pic though. If it's not making any weird noises, I wouldn't worry too much for now, change it again in 15k miles or so and see how many shavings you have then.
Are there any "big" chunks on there? It looks pretty normal to me...feel it with your fingers and if anything is fairly large then you may want to keep an eye on it.
But if there are no strange sounds and those shavings are all pretty uniform I wouldnt worry about it. All my drain plugs tend to look like that when I flush fluids.
No big chunks or curled shavings, it was about 1/3 qt low on fluid and looked like it had never been changed. No noises or lack of grip from the rear diff at all.
I'll change it after 3-4 track days and see what it looks like.
What makes you think it was 1/3 qt low on oil? The stock diff holds about .6 so if it was a 1/3 qt low then it would have only been filled up halfway which definitely would have been an issue.
I have a TRE rear diff in my car with the oil sight upgrade which enables you to easily fill the rear diff and actually raises the oil capacity. Take a look here its a good read (as is his whole website) http://www.teamrip.com/OIL_SIGHT_UPGRADE.html
