the factory clutch is pretty weak. Im on my second ACT clutch and XTSS pressure plate and have had no problems at all with them. Although some people have reported lock out on high rpm shifts, i have never experienced this.

For lightly modified there is really no reason to go to an aftermarket clutch if you do not launch the car. I have owned my Evo since day 1 and if I didn't get a great deal on the Comp Stage 2 a factory clutch would have been the replacement. I never had a single issue with the stock clutch on stock turbo even with running e85 and launching many times for autox.

I'm running a replacement OEM clutch. It is much improved over the clutch that came in the car new. No chatter ever, very smooth engagement and much more difficult to smoke.

We need to define lightly modified. I'd say under 300whp the stocker is still fine. Might even be good for more than that. UNless you're doing clutch dumps.

I was worried when I got my Evo in 2005 and modified it. So I put a brand-new clutch RRE no-name clutch in it. It was completely unnecessary. Could have saved myself $1500 or whatever it was by not changing the clutch.

ACT makes a good clutch. I got a lot of miles out of mine. Over 100k.
