2.4 LR w/6870

Hey guys, im in the process of building my car and pretty much decided to go with 2.4 LR and FF 6870 .84 a/r, made alot of research and didnt find any results or dyno graphs of people running the same setup. Does anybody know some results or advice? Thanks

So far no one on here runs that turbo in an open housing. People have talked about it, it has been advised against it. Best possivle application for a turbo that big is T4 twin scroll in a 1.00 or 1.15a/r housing.

Just type 6870 in the search and some threads should pop up!

So far no one on a 2.4 mostly on 2.2 or 2.0, this was all I could find.

Great input, thanks alot. When i searched the same threads poped up but none with 2.4 or .84 a/r so i was wondering i somebody actually did it. Do u have any more info why not .84? Is it cuz the engine wouldnt "breath" better at high rpms? Or different reason? Thanks again

Well you gotta think, the turbo on a 2.2l in a twin scroll configuration doesn't hit till 5300-5500rpm, so in a open .84 your probably not gonna see it hit till about 6200rpm which is just unacceptable in most people's books. I mean that's good for a track car spinning up to 9500+ rpms but nothing meant to be a street car.

In my honest opinion, I feel anything laggier than 5-5500k shouldn't be on a street car. Honda guys do it because their cars pretty much live on the rev limiter.

Someone said in another thread that if you run this turbo in a open scroll housing it would probably act like an FP super 99. I agree

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the smaller housing means faster spool? And the .84 is the smallest twin scroll housing for that turbo.
If its gonna be laggier than 5k-ish i would just go with smaller turbo.
Super 99 is just so laggy for the street, i think the 6870 made alot of turbos useless

My bad, for some reason I thought you were going for open scroll.
I didn't realize they made a smaller housing than the 1.0, I wouldn't run anything smaller than the 1.0a/r housing, your at that point essentially choking the turbo and killing it's main purpose which is top end hp and your going to create more back pressure than you want.

Basically it's like putting a .63a/r housing on a t3 6466, no one that wants big power would do that. You want to use a .82 or bigger.

So to run a .84 twin scroll will defeat the purpose of that turbo, if your that worried about spool you should go with a smaller turbo.

What is your power goal and how high do you plan to rev? This turbo might be all wrong for you, sounds like you would benifit more from a 6466 with the 2.4, even with long rod.

I made more research after what u said and i think i will go with 1.00 a/r instead the .84.
Im not that worried about the spool as much as im worried about the hp more, my goal is to make at least 500-600 (buschur dyno) on 20-25 psi on 93 octane. Its BR 2.4 LR so rev to ~9k
I was all about the 6466 but made more research and its only about 300 spool loss from 6870 to 6466
