LOL at suggesting a red with the stock cover. My car has some mild surging with the FAP compressor cover in 4th and 5th gear. I would hate to try it with a stock appearing cover.

And the powerband is more like 4200-8k. Not 2k to 8k. unless you count the 50wtq it makes at 2k rpms as part of the powerband...lol

OP, go with an HTA71. Or an HTA green if you can find one with the MHI hotside...

all this turbo talk; we're assuming you have addressed tire and suspension first? those will make you far faster than any turbo upgrade.

With your above comment you are contradicting your own signature. Secondly do not judge me by your ability. Thirdly learn to accept other people's experiences as we are not all the same in ability and experience and you might just learn something. Fourthly , yes my fp red setup hit full boost of 32psi by 2800rpm with hks 272 cams, cams which are pretty mild helping the fp red to spool very fast, yet their cam profile characteristics are enough for this little turbo. On my setup it had a much better boost threshold, spool time and rpm full boost point than the 80 series stock turbo. My fp black setup has full boost by 3800rpm and holds full boost and still makes power to 9K.

There is compressor surge and engine surge, both can be resolved through the right process. No surge issues at all with the stock comp. cover on the fp red.

just my 2cnts,

Marios

Post up some data logs or dyno sheets then. Because your numbers are fairly hard to believe

^^ yeah....32psi@2800 fp red and fullboost fpblack 3800? need to see logs/dyno sheets to support.

but anyway to OP, HP HTA71, stock 9 turbo or stock 8 turbo will suffice for autocross.

This is the second time Marios has claimed 32psi at 2800rpm with a red, and we still haven't seen data logs.

Then again, I can make a lot of boost at 3k too. Braking boosting in 5th in the freeway, and it makes the turbo surge. I didn't log it, but it was enough boost to open the wastegate, which starts opening at around 25psi..

My comments on not getting a red are because he didn't say anything about plans to build the motor. I have plans in place to build a 2.3 some time this summer.

Evo IX, 71HTA or HKS 7460 GTII turbo with stock manifold. You won't see much benefit going to T3 or T4 frame twin scrolls and it's added cost. The Kelfords are BIG, so you'll give up spool and low-RPM power. Since you're talking turbos and you have cams, I assume you're prepping to Street Mod rules. Get some 275s all around and good dampers if you don't already have them.

And lol @ a Red making full boost at 2800.

here is hks 7460 gtII on stock block and GSC S2's
could spool a bit faster if I did not have the mixture too lean on initial throttle open.. but still spools fantastic..

on the non-believers who think they know everything. If you can't make a small turbo such as the fp red spool as I said then you have much to learn on tuning.

2800rpm full boost in 4th, no surge issues.
