It's like a Vulcan mind meld or something

The only big turbo car Evo I've ridden in and liked was a local Vegas guy's. He had an English racing 2.2SLR with Jeff Bush race head and GSC s3, with an HT3586 on a buschur t3 vband turbo kit. The car made 790whp and had full boost (38psi) at 4800. It had a 5,000-9,500rpm powerband. Eveything else I've ridden in, even cars that had more power, didn't impress me like that car did.

Other than that, I have not ridden in an Evo with an "upgraded" turbo that I liked more than my red.

i have no doubt it's fun, just not sure if that would all do 500whp on pump gas. I have no experience with 93oct, though.

I'm pretty sure E85 qualifies as pump gas

At least it does in my book, seeing as how it has gas in it and it comes out of a pump

Have you driven a 500whp Evo? I have, and I'm not convinced it's needed for the car to be fun, sure it's cool, but unless you wann kill supercars on the freeway, its not 100% needed. Like I said, a properly built stroker with a red will make over 450 on 91.

Hell, my track tune makes about 420whp, which is effing plenty for trackdays...lol. My focus when I build the motor will be maintaining topend power at my current boost level (23-24psi), while creating more torque/power sooner on the left of the graph.

Kaj is anti-E85 for some odd reason so it's going to be a hard sell Erik.

i've driven one that had much more than 500whp. Not my cup o' tea. i didn't like the power band. my car has about 360whp on 91 and 450 or so on e85. that's enough for me. Plus, boost is like "right now". it's the most fun i've ever had in this car.

Not anti. I just choose not to use it. I've expressed my reasons in many, many threads. i'm sure everyone here has read it at least once LOL

Do you have a dyno chart for the e85? That is with the HKS 264s right?

You would have to ask that because instead of his mods being in his sig, he has "nobody cares about your mods or old cars". lol

Greddy 264 which is probably about the same, I'd imagine?

I do have a chart at home. I'll look it up after work tonight.

**edit. I was overly optimistic. I only made 430whp on VD's DynoJet setting.

I really liked my E-85 2.4L FP old "green" set-up . Made 500 ft/lbs torque and
it didn't have to wait for it. Torque rules the street. As far as freeway duty merging onto was no problem and pulled to over 100 well, which is just in time for the next off ramp exit.

Yeah turbo didn't push well over 6K but pulled 4.11 gears well and covered ground really quick.

A lot of people I know are going back to smaller turbos, especially stock-framed. They are realizing a useful powerband, less supporting mods ($$$), and less time maintaining the car (more driving) is a lot of fun.
They found using 600whp didn't happen as often as they would like, but full boost at 3500rpm does. LOL
I think they're both fun, in their own way.

That's exactly what I was estimating I'd do on E85 if I kept these cams along with a Grimspeed EBC, new wastegate, and a better diverter valve and ran the HTA 71.

Not to be biased, LOL! Evo 9 5 speed with a 71 HTA, cams, and a nice suspension. Bring that 6262 car out for some fun....
