Acceptable method for checking installed spring height?

Working on installing Kelford 8-TX272 Cams and Kelford KVS63-BK Valve Springs in my '05 Evolution.

Before installing the new valve springs, I'd like to check the installed height.

In the following video, they use digital calipers, a valve stem height gauge and a depth micrometer.

I am curious why I couldn't just use the digital calipers?

1: Measure the height from the bottom of the retainer to the tip of the valve with the digital caliper
2: Measure the height from the valve seat to the top of tip of the valve with the digital caliper using the depth-measurement end of the caliper
3: Subtract step 1 from step 2, then I have my installed spring height, right?

If anyone has a better method to share, and/or can validate that using the digital caliper solely would be an acceptable method, it would be appreciated.

I asked Kelford, they could not recommend a specific method.

Thanks!

Ben

Did you do any machine work on the head yourself? If not, install them and ship it. Installing springs in these heads isn't like doing an old pushrod American V8, where you're more or less installing universal parts and have to make sure they install to spec.

If you had a machine shop do anything, they should have checked the installed height of the valves before returning the head to you.

You could just use the depth gauge to measure from the top of the spring, to spring seat in the head. Although, like I said, it's not really necessary.
