Which cams to choose

Dear EvoM members, I would like you to help me with choosing the right cams for my setup.
Below are the mods currently on my car:

-Evo 9
-2.3L stroker
-BR HTA3586R
-upgraded springs and retainers
-stock intake manifold
-ported and polished head
-GSC S1 mivec cams

Can you please advise the best tested cam selection for this setup since I prefer faster spool and I want to use the car in autocross events, thank you.

Note: I would really appreciate it if you can provide any feedback about GSC S2 and R2 mivec cams.

Go with the R2's, they'll make more power on the 2.3L thanks to the extra valve lift and with mivec they won't affect spool.

mrfred went from S2's to R2's on his 2.0L and made the same power with 2psi less boost. So if he had turned the boost back up, they would probably be a 20-25whp gain.

Thanks for sharing, I read the article and it is really interesting what these bad boys can do even on a 2.0L..

Heres a set in a 2.3L with a single scroll FP red. Which is a 61lb/min turbo. The tuner said it had more power to make if the owner wanted to go to E85. Very nice powerband.

Very Nice results, thank you for sharing this post. I will share my dyno results once the cams are installed and the car is done, thanks again.

What a coincidence, I'm going through a very similar project & waiting for the new set of cams:
Evo 9
ATP stage3 kit, GTX3576R .82AR
2.3L Engine, ported head
I opted for the S2 cams rather than the R2s, my concern was the high lift numbers of the R2s (12.10/11.90) fearing the extra turbo lag & a choppy idle
I but I'm interested in seeing your dyno results.... good luck

Hi Foxbat,

From what I read and researched online, the R2 cams will allow more air to flow to the engine to make use of the stroker setup we have. The lag "if any " will be minimal (200-300rpm) compared to the 25-30 whp you will gain and the wider range hp and tq u will get on all RPMs. Hopefully I will get mine this weekend and by the week after the car should be ready. Once everything is done I will share my results so that you can get an idea of what to expect.
Cheers

Lift doesn't cause choppy idle. Overlap and, to some extent, duration are what cause a choppy idle.
