Post Rebuilt engine - No oil pressure ( Good Read )

2003 Evo -

Alright so, this shouldn't be too hard right? I'm having a little bit of trouble. Engine was rebuilt and everything is hooked up.

-Remove oil injector line to turbo to see oil

- Removed fuses for fuel and spark

-removed spark plugs (saves battery)

-Primed the oil pump buy remove the hex bolt in the oil filter housing

-checked fluid level

------------

I ended up cranking for about 2-3 minutes (total time) not all at once, I even added a little oil in each cylinder. I went online and watched the video where you take a drill and primed the oil pump, so I removed the T-belt and did that too, no luck, no oil coming to the head.

Am I missing something here?

did you assemble the motor?

did you put the gasket for the oil strainer?

did you overload on silicone while sealing the pan?

did you do anything to the oil pump?

somethings causing the pump to malfunction, my bet is something stuck in the oil strainer, take off the pan and look at it, also make sure you dont have oil leaking from the back oil gallery or something (sometimes machine shops take them out to hot tank the motor).

I did not assemble

No over load of the gasket

oil pump was checked with a feeler gauge to ensure it was still a good pump

I pulled the pan off, strainer gasket, is brand new, the pick up tube is clear of debris

I think I need to get some vacuum

I hope nothing is hurt, total crank time without load shouldn't damage the engine

On fresh builds and new oil pumps in the past I've had issues with the oil pump priming even with the drill method. What finally worked for me was to use a bit of compressed air in the dipstick tube to presurise the crankcase and help get oil moving. I turned down pressure, was probably 5-10psi and literally too a sec or two with the pump spinning.

remove the hex screw in the top of oil pump body just below the t belt tensioner pulley , "they can be really tight" blow off any thread lock as it comes up , squirt some oil down and turn the oil pump pulley by hand clockwise after a few squirts turn it anti clock slowly till you see the oil coming up the hole to insure its primed refit the grub screw ,b4 you prime with the drill blank the feed to the turbo 10 x 1.25 bolt , refit the hydraulic tensioner temporarily as oil will sometimes come out the bolt holes , drill and 14 socket on pulley turn clockwise , hasnt failed me yet .
i personally wouldnt ever turn over an engine with the starter b4 i had primed the pump as above

To prevent this in the future, pack the pump with Vaseline. It helps it create a vacuum and draw oil up the pick up tube.

^^ This is what I was told to do, and worked like a charm after i had my pump out to delete my balance shafts.

All set, I decided to go to bed, in the morning I got the drill, ran the pump and it worked out. Last night before going to bed I already removed the hex screw and pumped a 1/4 qt into there, so the filter was full as well.

typically takes fluid to create pump pressure so you could use the turbo oil supply on the head to back fill the oil pump. glad to see it working now.
