Install mods now, or after tune?

Hey everyone,

i need some advice on how to proceed with the installation of some new mods. I'd need to drive 1.5 hours away to my tuner to get tuned once the new setup is installed. The question is, could i drive that far with the following changes, or will i need to settle for etuning? i currently have all of the following parts and am only waiting on FP... it is now week 6 of the wait for the FP Black. I just wanted to get a head start on things if i can, but id like the car to be driveable to the tuner, unless that is a lost cause with all these upgrades:

from stock IX turbo/ actuator to ported JB MHI Black w/28 psi actuator
from stock intake and exhaust manifolds to ported stock manifolds
from single walbro 255 to double pumper (dual 255)
from 1050cc to 1250 cc (probably should install those at the tune?)
from stock intake/DV/uicp to 4" SD intake w/ ets short route UCIP and tial Q (probably should install this at the tune?)

current mod list: e85, stock ix turbo, fic 1050cc, walbro 255, arp head studs, cosworth m2 cams, stock intake pipe with buscher dry filter, perrin 3 port boost control, turboback exhaust

install all your modification. make sure you done it right.

then, get AAA towing roadside assistance ($125 I think) with upgraded towing mileage.( 200 miles)

then put it on AAA truck and send it to your tuner..

You could definitely install turbo and manifolds, and limp car to tuner.

Fuel pumps not sure, but should be ok....

Intake and piping will be done there. As well as injectors

You are looking at about a half hour to a hours worth of labor when you get there.....

I actually have AAA, but I'd hate to install it all and not start the car until its towed to the tuner. I'd like to know if there are any install related problems before I get there...especially that intake mani. I heard it's a horrible procedure to swap out. So hopefully I don't mess that one up.

Could I get a base etune that at least allows me to drive under boost to the tuner? At least I'd be able to test drive it before driving it up to the tuner to make sure there aren't any install related issues after the car is put back together

why would you want to drive under boost at all? install the mods, do a boost leak test, start the car to make sure it runs, then put it on a trailer and go to the tuner

Is it even safe to turn it on with a new fuel pump and injectors , turbo , bov , and intake?

Install everything except the injectors and speed density intake, do a boost leak test. Drive the car (EASY) to the tuner, install injectors and intake there (only take 20-30 minutes), and tune.

your switching the car over to SD? You said SD intake, so if you install that and remove your MAF it will not run until it is tuned with an SD map. How confident are you in your mechanical abilities? It could end up costing you more having the tuner troubleshoot your install then just letting them do it if there are problems with the install. If you do the install yourself make sure to cover your bases, do a boost leak test and eliminate any leaks, torque everything to correct specs, do a good wiring job with the double pumper etc.

Don't install the intake or the injectors until you get there. Everything else no problem.

Yes, going from stock MAF pipe to SD. Looking like I'd need to save the intake/BOV/injectors for right before the tune.

I removed my turbo myself and sent it in, so im somewhat confident in my mechanical ability. The double pumper and intake manifold seem challenging but im up for it

To Piggy back off this. I am going Sd this year. Can i just wire up the Intake temp and Map sensor. Swap out my Bov then when i get to tuner just put on the new intake with out the maf? Just stay out of boost?

Reread the post that you quoted. It say to leave the current intake (which would include the MAF) on the car until you get to the tuner.

Also, a properly wired Walbro 255 double pumper setup will be fine since you'll be staying out of boost, you will only be on the primary pump, which should be running off of the stock dual voltage power wire, so it will be fine.

ok that info on the fuel pump makes sense. I'll be doing the double pumper too prior to tune.

What are your thoughts on the intake mani being installed before the tune, being that the 4bar and IAT will be installed for SD

If it is an SD intake without the MAF it will not even be able to idle. You will need a tune to get it running.
