nope. usually i'm pretty **** about baselining and stuff, but based on some of the feedback on this topic already, I figured I'd start at -4/-1 and if it didn't seem right, then I'd start playing with it. But, like I said, the car runs smooth, only a slightly lumpy idle and pulls like mad up top.

... if it ain't broke, don't break it

I have 272's, cam sprockets, utec and head studs about to go in. When turbo-xs releases their new software I will be on the dyno and will be testing different settings so I'm sure in a few weeks I will have some helpfull info.

Yes, please let me know becasue I am about to make a cam decision myself. I was sold on the 264/272 combo as it was recommended by a couple very reputable shops who are active in these forums but I am not too sure how extensive their research was on the 272/272 setup. I also have the UTEC and I am curious to see how the engine management will react to these popular settings.

Does the actual timing and overlap numbers come with the cams or has anyone checked them? Degreeing them in would take a while. I am thinking about starting out very conservative with just a 265 exhaust cam. Does anyone know what the stock cams timing is?

The Stock Evo cams are twin 256's. You would be best with 272's but then you would see how your turbo is limited, but the 272's can breath enough to past 9000RPMS as long as you build your head of course.

264's are perfect for the 16G.

Does anyone have an Idea on what the cam settings would be for a 272in / 264ex setup?

With my HKS cam gears set at -4 on the intake and -1 on the exhaust works great. The car idles like stock with 272's and it pulls like a mad man on top. thanks silver surfer.

My guess is the 272 cam set is perhaps beyond the limit of what's beneficial with mild setups where valve overlap is concerned. From what I've read in this thread, it seems apparent that removing some of the overlap allows one to benefit from the additional lift without losing too much boost through the exhaust valve.

One question I do have however is are the 4 deg retard (Int) and 1.5 deg retard (Exh) figures quoted with respect to the factory settings or TDC? I've been told the factory settings are not 0/0, so this is important. No one has yet asked this!

My plan is to use these settings with the Vishnu gears and tune with the Xede computer, and I need to be sure I correctly transfer those settings to this gear set.
