Evo Launches.......

Ok after the trip to the drag strip this weekend i realize my evo is waaaaay off pace.... Some questions i wanted to as are...

In stock trim how many people's evo's would break traction on a hard launch.... mine does not and will not and never has.....
Stock 1/8th miles times if you have them....

Im just really upset with the track performance this past weekend... i dont think my driving is that bad..... im .6 seconds off in the 1/8th.... best time of the day was a 9.06 at 78.xxmph.......

If your car is 100% stock, I found my Evo to be particularly slow. I even raced a Riced out V6 (older) accord, I barely beat him. Then I found out the idiots at mitsu do not know how to properly tighten a I/C clamp, I pulled the intake out, tightened them all, WALA, went from a MAX of 15PSi to 19PSI, and Now my car woke the -****- up.

well i went and did some tightening of my own.... and gained roughly 2psi........ to redline... i plan to go further and tighten more this weekend..... as of now it will boost to 19psi and taper right back to around 14-15 it now holds a steady 16 psi after the peak of 19....... so its doing better after 5 minutes of tightening... im thinking my next mod may be a set of samco hoses and see how it wakes the car up.......

Get a manual boost controller and set that ***** at 20 and it will hold till redline, no taper. It will transform your performance. N/A cars can only dream about a $100 mod to gain so much.

What? You can't write b i t c h? That's not profanity. Give me a right wing break.

I passed up the turbo XS for the Hallman pro RX. It was cheaper and came with everything you need to install it, even the rubber plugs for the turbo nipple and intake nipple. It also comes with the heavy spring which I had to put in since I could only get 16 PSI with the regular spring. Works great. Got it from Mach V. Great service.

I've used Turboxs HPmbc on every turbo car I've owned and it is simply the best. It is precise. With the HPmbc, you can set it to the right psi and fine tune it. It works great for spiking in colder weather. With other mbc's, you can turn up the boost but you can't fine tune it. I can't really explain it but I personally think the Turboxs HPmbc is the best.

That's B.S. I can fine tune the Hallman to perfectly dial in what I'm aiming for. The Turbo XS I'm sure is a good unit, but I got a better price for something that does the same job, plus I can get the in car adjustment kit to dial in right from the driver's seat.

You don't want to launch your car too much. Things will wear out and break. Stock Evo can only manage around 6.7 sec. to 60mph without launching. Best thing to do is mod the car. Mine does around 5-5.5 sec. to 60mph from a stand still without launching. I have walked every WRX's that have launched on me and a 98 Mustang Cobra. One of the WRX guy who had full exhaust was amazed that I walked him even though he launched and had a car length on me.
With the right mod you can walk quite a bit of cars out there without stressing out your tranny.
BTW, only time I ever spun my tires was on a rainy day which was just one of the front tires. I don't see how anyone with stock Evo can spin tires with the Advans unless they did a massive launch from 6-7k rpm.

the evo is slow stock.

i didn't even get to launch it nicely yet, and my clutch is slipping.
When i do get my clutch the evo will launch real hard!

An MBC hold 20??? I thought the ECU tapered it back NOT the boost controller...???

Sorry to add to the thread hijack...

Also, first autocross test & tune 2 weeks ago with Kumho Victoracers V700 - first start, 44 degree ground temp, never really launched it before, revved at 4500 and spun all four. To add insult to injury I was just a bit off of straight pointing towards the next gate - I was slightly sideways before I even hit the timing lights! *laugh* That's the only time I've spun 4 without it being in the snow (thank God that seems to be over for a few months!).

"Launch" is a lousy word. Use the search feature and find launch discussions. The merits and liabilities of slipping the clutch vs. a sidestep are here. I do a slight slip and do OK, not a street racer so I can't muster a kill list or anything. But I know it's a faster launch and I've done it in other cars for years and only roasted the first clutch I ever had (in 1987, after 40K miles). With 13K miles on my odo the shifter, clutch, everything are feeling better than ever.

Figure out how you want to launch and get some objective measure (G-Tech, friend with a damn good eye and stopwatch) to get your speed measurements. You'll figure it out.

sounds about like mine with a Untuned SAFCII, and UR 3" DP, 3" Test pipe, and HKS 30th catback, it still is slow.....i cant launch worth a flip, especially at a track in front of people...

You disconnect the stock boost controller solenoid when you put in a MBC, so the ECU is blind to your boost functions. You can boost what you want then. Magical.
