Timing question.

I'm trying to time my evo 8 and ive seen people match the marks to the top and to each other. Which way is the correct way to timing this engine? Anyone can help?

Cam marks match to marks in top lip of valvecover.

Finally got the cams to face the top. Now my question is that I heard either intake or exhaust cams are supposed to be half teeth off. Is that true?

If either side is off half a tooth its likely caused by a resurfaced head or deck. And if so it takes adjustable cam gears to zero it back down.

Its either off a tooth or not. The belt doesnt have 1/2 teeth.

With the timing marks lined up, the cam sprockets, at the top, due to valve spring pressure, want to turn towards each other. If you allow the engine to sit in this configuration the belt tensioner will allow slack between the cam sprockets.
