Unhappy Put in the wrong power steering fluid...

I was told that ANY power steering fluid would work in my Evo from someone on the forums. Just so you all know: you cant. I bought a generic brand from Walmart after draining out all of my fluid and filled her up. She now screams like a cat being ran over by a car every time I turn the wheel. The wheel is hard as heck to turn. I drove 40+ miles like this hoping that is was just breaking in...

When I pop open the PS resivour, I can see nothing but a soapy foam. My guess is that the mixture of the left over old PS fluid and the new fluid are causing a soapy/bubbly condition.

I then went to the dealership and got the correct power steering fluid. I drained out the wrong stuff and put in new stuff. didnt work. I then drained out the new stuff and put in MORE new stuff. Still screaches.

Did I ruin my PS pump and/or system?

If I take the car to the dealership, can they flush the whole system? If so, for how much $$??

Just installed my Pruven FMIC kit and I havent been able to step on it yet

i think you didnt put enough power stearing fluid in just add mroe its gonna hold alot in there between the lines and everything else
see if you can fit mroe in i think the soapy bubbling is jsut caUSED BY THE PUMP TRYIN TO PUMP AIR INSTEAD OF FLUID

The fluid is OK. You can use almost any fluid designed for P/S systems. Your problem is that the system is completely airbound, you will need someone to bleed it out. The dealer should have the equipment to do so. Try and not drive it like this too much or you may damage the system.

You can bleed it yourself by lifting the front off of the ground and turning the wheel completely to the right and left(pour in fluid as needed) till the sound goes away.

I did bleed the system. I did every step on that list and I in fact overfilled the thing and had to take some out. The screaching has gotten quieter, but the steering is still all effed up.
