Engine Install

A few months ago my motor went to hell so I decided to do a full build.

I removed the motor from the top after removing tcase, exhaust mani, and everything else that was in the way. With little effort I was able to remove the engine from the top with a engine hoist and load leveler.

My engine build was completed a week or so ago and now it's time to drop it back in. We bolted up the transmission, intake mani, and exhaust mani and attempted to drop in. well, it didn't go as planned. The oil filter housing kept jamming by the pass mount area, couldn't get the transmission mount to line up. Also broke TPS sensor, put hole in the AC condenser, and scratched the **** out of my torque transmission mount .

Any tips/advice on getting this engine back in? Should I remove the intake mani and exhaust mani?

As an assembly, its much easier to lower the car on top of the engine/trans. Other wise, pull the trans off the motor, install the motor from the top, support it, then huck the trans up from underneath.

You should be able to drop it in from the top with the intake manifold and exhaust manifold on. Remove the A/C pump if its on.

Is the transfer case still hanging in place or completely removed?

I removed and installed mine complete below.

Tips:
-Secure you rear wheels with chucks.
-Use your hoist to lift the front end. (at least 40"?)
-Use wood dolly(harbor freight) to slide engine assembly in. Make sure you secure engine assembly with straps.
-lower the car to jack stands.
-lift your engine assembly with hoist.

I pulled the motor and trans together, but reinstalled the motor first and then the trans. I usually leave the AC compressor and power steering pump tied off to the side to avoid evacuating the system. Once the motor is approximately where it needs to be, I install the passenger side motor mount to anchor the assembly in place.

I'm not sure how you could break the throttle position sensor, but I can totally see how one could put a hole in the AC condenser. The torque transmission mount that you mentioned, is it the front roll stopper mount right under the trans? If so, that entire cross member/trans support rail that it's bolted to should have been removed before pulling the motor. It makes it easier to install the motor and makes it possible to install the trans from under the car. 4 bolts for that sucker.

The TPS/TB got snagged on the firewall trying to wiggle the motor into place.

Going to try again tomorrow, if that fails then I'll just need to install in segments

notice the angle of it going it helps and see the jack placement underneath. Obviously having the radiator out helps too.
