I usually don't order a head gasket until machine work is done and the short block is assembled so that can measure piston-to-deck height.

Good advice, one step at a time. Appreciate all the help, may or may not update down the line as a build, but probably will as I run into issues.

Oil squirters aren't necessary due to you'll be using forged pistons. The car comes with them because the stock pistons aren't forged.

I would highly recommend sticking to 9:1 compression for pump gas.
Just wanted to chime in here as I have built a 4G69 combo before. You do not need a modified water pump with the 4G69. I didn't bother with oil squirters either as I used Manley rods and pistons. The 4G69 is a good combo especially if you're not shooting for super high power numbers. And the coolant passages are much larger than the 4G64. The Rod/Stroke ratio isn't much better on a 4G64 (1.56) than it is on the 4G69 (1.5), which both are less than a stock 4G63(1.7). So I wouldn't completely write off the 4G69 for a cheap 2.4l alternative. Plus where the deck height is the same there is no change or adjustment needed to the timing system like the minor ones needed with the 4G64. If you are keeping MIVEC you do need to use the MAP kit or build your own, the Evo 9 line doesn't fit.

Best of luck man! Hope to see some good pictures and updates regarless of which block you choose.
