I would 100% go with a 94mm crank unless you had enough transmission to shift well at 9500rpm+ . A bigger crank is just going to create a larger powerband and make the car more enjoyable .

The latest and greatest motor these days is a 2.2 consisting of a 94mm crank 153mm rods and custom height pistons. My block is sitting at ER currently and thats the motor I'm going with.

does anyone have any first hand experience with the 94mm crank/ 156mm rods? I get that its not an ideal piston compression height but there are a few manufacturers offering this combo and I wouldn't think it would be offered if it was truly a bad setup.

Yes. Don't do it.

Bad products are offered for sale all of the time. MAP stock frame turbos come to mind. Junk Korean/Chinese tires.

Idk why the 94/156/4g63 combo is so appealing. Its repeatedly said in this thread to not do it... Additionally, the 94/150/4g63 revs to 9500 just fine anyways. Everyone trying to run a longer rod for no reason. Hondas run a rod ratio of 1.55:1 from factory and rev to 11k... Its not ALL about rod ratio.

What about a 2.2 (94/156/4g64) combo? Do you think is a good choice? I have a 4g64 (100/156) combo and I rev to 8.500. I was thinking if it worth switching to 2.2 4g64 option to rev at 9.500. Also, I wanted to ask. If I switch to 94mm from 100mm, is the piston/rod combo compatible with the 94mm crank or do i have to buy new ones?

I have that in my car, you can use the same rod, but you'll need a different piston with appropriate compression distance. It's a really good setup. Mine is extremely smooth with good balancing work from my machinist and an ATI damper.

My current setup is 4G64 2.4 long rod, and i was thinking if I could only swap the crank to build a 2.2 4g64 destroker I would probably do it. But if i need to buy pistons too, I have to rebuild the engine from beginning and that would be push me back. I just want that 1.000+revs to push the turbo to its limits, broaden the powerband a bit more and also push the gears even further

You would either need pistons, or 159mm rods. But if you do just rods, the shorter stroke will lower your compression ration by about .6-.7:1. If you currentl have a 9:1 motor it'll be in the low 8's, a 10.5:1 will end up in the high 9's.
