QM flywheel hitting oil pan



Built a 2.4 to replace the 2.4 that crankwalked. Original 2.0 motor had Exedy MM022HD and it was reinstalled on the first 2.4 build. The thrust bearing basically fell out and even though the clutch had no wear and was true. Decided to get a QM 28954463 for the new motor. It was installed and the flywheel is hitting the end of the pan. Its the same oil pan as the previous build. Donor motor from a 2002 Eclipse N/A. QM says I need a DSM flywheel with a 4G64 block and crank. Makes no sense to me, 2.3l still use regular Evo clutches???

i have a 4g64 with a QM.
i orderd the normal evo clutch.
i didnt have this issue

I'm not 100% sure this is the problem but did you get your crank shaft out of an automatic? Reason I ask is that I know on the dsms there is a flex plate spacer that you use on the torque converter that goes in between the crank and the flex plate. Here is a link to the part that I am referring too.

Again not sure if that's the issue. But I do know on the dsm there is a difference between an a auto and a manual crankshaft.

Thanks for the reply . Here is the info on the donor motor. They say compatible with M/T cars so I assume its from a manual car even though it doesn't say that specifically.

The crank is the same. They don't make the crank shorter and then add a spacer. Ford does the same thing on some of their vehicles. One of the transmission options gets a flywheel spacer, and it's typically the auto.

I'd have to say it's an issue with the flywheel. Either machined wrong or wrong part all together. Or this engine has worn thrust bearings.

Exedy twin went in fine. Must be the wrong flywheel. Decided to get new master and slave cylinder to go along with the monoloc and OE TOB so there arent any problems in the future

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasnt sure if it was the same for the 100mm cranks did the same as the old 7 bolt dsm cranks did.

Personally the exedy twin is a much better clutch imo. The drivabiltiy is amazing.
