someone snapped a pic a couple weekends ago - 8/10 ohlins, tanabe fsb and wl 24mm on fill stiff. rear off the ground

Link no worky. But I did co-drive a stock Evo 8 on Hoosiers, once.

^ that should work. on track, street tires 265s. still lift, aka tripoding still relevant for me for track

Yep. Every suspension and tire combination I've used = tripod. Even stock, I'd assume. A few non-Evo people I know can't, for the life of them, figure out why we can't/don't/won't tune that out. It makes no sense to them why we would be okay with it.

Holy crap! What a dive!

I guess it does make sense that our cars should stick with the clutch type rear diffs. Now I wonder, at what point do we start to bend control arms and bolts by driving like that?

Would the car have to flip before that happens?

Looks like late braking into a turn. The transition from one side to the next turn is causing the tripoding of the suspension. Some have had luck tuning it out with a smaller sway rear bar or using adjustable end links. If you run a high enough spring rate in the rear then might as well disconnect the rear sway bar to see if that makes any change.
