272/272 will be good for pure performance but the idle will suck. 264/272 would be a bit better, the idle wont be as bad but with the 272 exhuast cam you'll still be pulling more power. 264/264 will be good for all around drivability, but I would go 264/272.

well not exactly, the hks 272s the exhaust lift is only 10.2mm and the intake is 10.8mm, so the cams are designed according to how much the head can flow, if you port and polish the 272s will yield even more power across the power band

you don't even need cam gears to make the idle, dynoflash or piggyback is enough to make the idle smooth

The idle will be smoothier but you will still get the lopy mean sound. My car have never stall during start-up and idle. It only stalls during driving when the car is put into neutral and the brake is press. I'm changing the BOV to a 1g so I hope this will fix the stalling problem.

272in/ex with -4/-1 idles the same /better as stock. I have tried everything (-2/-2, -4/-4, -2/+1) but -4/-1 seem to get the idle perfect. It seems to pull softer thanb -2/-2 but it just roars at the top end.

Would'nt have believed what silversurfer said if I didnt try it.

Back to the original question...some engines breathe better with a longer duration exhaust so that all the spent gasses can exit before the new batch of "bang-juice" is pulled in. I watch Spike TV all the time and I've heard this many times on the auto shows shown on Saturday and Sunday. Makes sense to me.

My theory is this...get the 272's and some cam gears. Invest in some dyno time and set your timing to allow a proper idle. Or you can do the cheap route and do it with an AFC.

it all depends on what you want, road racing 264/264 are better because you want more low end TQ coming out of corners, drag racing 272/272 is going to give you a better top end.
