Evo 9 Engine Rebuild
Evo 9 Engine Rebuild
Good Evening ,
So unfortunately recently i countered a scenario where Cylinder 1 has no compression and blowing oil out the top.
I just want some opinions and experience you guys have with a rebuild on the 4G63
What should be bought and replaced / What else I would be overlooking.
Vehicle
Evo 9 MR
35k Miles
Stock Turbo

Literally not what I'm asking at all.
Someone is already in the process of rebuilding it for me
Ring lands are the cause for failure .
What im asking is at 35k miles are you guys buying a full bearing rebuild kit and what else would I be looking into specifically.

Does the crank need to be turned? buying oversized bearing anyways? Block need to be bored? Head being resurfaced, new value seals etc. You should be talking to your engine builder on all this.

It depends on your goals. If all you want to do is keep it stock then its all going to come down to what your engine builder says you need to do to get back to a good place. If you want to upgrade or lay the foundation for future upgrades then this is an opportune time to do that, because you are already outlaying money on labor. How much the difference in labor will be depends on how much work your engine needs.
If you can post more information about your goals, budget, cars intended usage, you will get better feedback. The main thing is though your builder needs to be your primary source of information about how you should proceed. Generally though you should expect to replace everything that is a wear item, gaskets, seals, water pump, timing belt stuff, o-rings, bolts that might break, etc. I would have the oil pump inspected. Also probably a good time for a head rebuild. How is the drivetrain, braking system, and suspension? The car is going to be down a while, its a good time to go over all the systems and see what needs maintenance/repair.

see my thread, I don't have the luxury of a kurt brown to send my motor to, I just have a sprinkle of builders that say they can do anything, so I researched on here and created a work sheet with everything I needed done and the parts I wanted supplied and rang around to various builders, then I picked two and dropped in to talk activities and got a feel if they were what I expected and were easy to deal with and had experience on the 4G63 motor. You'll soon get a feel when you talk stuff like long rod v short rod and they nod and add to the conversation. Be solid with what your expectations are and be involved in any decisions that need to be made along the way.

I do not plan on doing crazy power adders , vehicle is stock besides a cam upgrage.
Failure of piston was due to detonation and the Cylinder is still in solid
All im looking for is getting it back on the road deal.
