I came up in the muscle car world though, if you come from civic land it might just be your cup of tea.
Well you can't leave the thing in 5th and expect it to work. Lol

I had an issue with the valves on the head, and ended up swapping over while the head was off... The turbine was completely fine btw.

I see. Have you got the car tuned on the new turbo setup? What turbo kit do you have for the 9174 and what AR?

Which turbos? If you're talking BW EFR vs a precision, they both have their very different but appropriate applications.

that’s what I’ve been reading around (EFR being good for street and road course while precision being good for drag). I guess for a street car is the EFR really the better choice?

Depends on the kind of street car you want. I haven't driven any of the EFR's but I really don't think they meet the hype based on comparing dyno results.

What are you wanting out of the car?

So the Driven Fabrication 9174 w/1.05 AR was never really able to put the power down that it could have, due to the valves being shot (I was losing a quart of oil in the end every time I drove it), ...think 700-ish before it got bad. That being said, it did spool fairly quick for a large turbo, (Funny story...faster than a McLaren 570 on the highway kind of fast after he waved by-bye.)

The 6466 isn't fully tuned because now I'm having a fueling issue. 740 hp and the Haltech is showing that it's losing/compensating fuel pressure. I think we've got it figured out to a pump or the FPR.

Looking at the curves they are different.

.

my Evo is making a little over 600hp with a 3576R on a stock block. I mostly do freeways racing haha. So I don’t see myself drag racing. With all that being said would the EFR (9174 or 9180) be best since it spools faster than a 6466?

I would go with the appropriate precision for the power you want to make.

You also need to build the motor.

What are your favorite big turbo's? something good for 500-800hp twinscroll and BB would be ideal.

Help! I'm a turbo tard....
Mod List:

FP Black JB Turbo
FP Manifold
FP o2 Housing
FP Intake MAF
Tial External WG
ETS intercooler kit
GSC 280 S3 cams
GSC springs retainers
Grimmspeed 3-port EBC
Evo 9 BOV
Invidia Catless Turbo Back Exhaust
FIC 1650cc Injectors
Walbro 450 fuel pump
AEM Fuel Rail
AEM Gauges
Radium Oil Catch Can
Apex Powered COP Kit
Whiteline Swaybar Front and Rear
Fortune Auto Coilovers
Mishimoto Radiator
All things being equal, the Precision 6466 is hard to beat for spool and power. I had one on my car w/T3 open scroll .82 housing and made 850awhp at about 44lbs. Now, I have a 6870 with Precision's v-band in/out housing and .81a/r. Honestly, this 6870 spools just about as quick as the 6466 did in the open scroll housing. In 4th gear if I stab it from a roll on the highway, I can see 45lbs of boost by 5400rpm or less. I rev the car out to 9800rpm (aluminum rod 2.0 with Kelford 288s) so that's a heck of a power band. The car now makes over 900whp at 45lbs.

BTW, my personal opinion is that these Precision v-band in/out housings provide nearly identical spool to a big, bulky, twin-scroll housings. The packaging on the v-band in/out stuff is so much more compact and quite a bit lighter as well.

Nice! Glad to read some positive things from a 6870 owner. Of the two turbo’s you ran on your car which is your favorite?

I like the 6870 better. It has more top end and gives up very little to the 6466 down low.
