You guys saying the 6870 is better, we're you running an H-cover with a custom turbo kit, or running an S cover on a standard kit?

I’m definitely partial to the BW S362SXE (6368) turbo, which is my current setup (600@wheels) on 93 pump. I’m currently revising my downpipe to add a flex section and ditching the cat for a dynomax resonator. I’m probably going to try the S366SXE (6673) soon just because I’m curious, it fits my setup, and costs $1000.

I have this kit right here from STM. I bought it used and it came with a virtually new 6870 w/ported S-cover.

The nice thing about this kit is that I can move up to a 7275 or even a 7675 as a simple bolt-on. The turbine housing on my 6870 is exactly the same housing used on the v-band in/out 7675 turbos.

How does that work with the different size wheels?

By same he means external dimensions. It uses the larger inlet vband that the larger frame turbo's use, and the outlet flange is in the same spot relative to the inlet flange so the kit still lines up correctly when going to a larger turbo.

I'd still opt for twin scroll on any of these larger turbo's. JMFab has a couple manifolds that work with the larger frame turbos as well, and available in T4 twinscroll.

Isn't that basically the same across all the street precision turbos? inlet and outlet on v-bands are in the same location, no?

That stops after the 6870 or 6875. After that you're up to a 7275 or large and those turbos are all GT40/42 sized with an H compressor cover.

Right, I lump those into street turbos, the 7XXX's+ are big guns.

I currently have a Full Race Twin Scroll T4 setup with a S366. Built bottom end but stock head with HKS 272 cams. The lag is such that I don't have a huge powerband since I'm not revving super high. Anybody have some suggestions for a reasonably priced alternative that will spool sooner but still make upwards of 700+ whp? Or am I better off saving up and getting a built head?

It is cheaper to build a head. Just swap the cams and a spring/retainer kit and you are good. But eventually it depends how high your engine can rev and what you want to do with the car. If it is daily driven and not drag oriented, I feel like an FP Red or an FP Black would be far more better. Your cams will limit your poweband either way. So in your place, I would switch cams to something like S2's and rev it a bit higher to widen the broadband. If still the turbo has a lot of lag, I would switch to something smaller but not too small to choke the turbo at higher rpms

Is it worth just switching out the springs/retainers and cams while the head is still on vs taking it off and getting it worked? The price tag starts to dramatically increase at that point. Also, this is definitely not a daily. This is my weekend/toy car so not as worried about drivability issues.

What a/r are you running? My S362SXE makes 600@wheels on pump with great spool.
