Wrist Pin failure

Wrist Pin failure

Had a wrist pin snap in half just wondering how rare that is with current setup. i.e its just a freak bad luck occurrence

Wiseco HD1400 running near 600 flywheel straight 2.0l stock rod length stock compression

What was wristpin clearance set to?

It broke directly in the middle of the pin? How did you know it was broken? Ive used those pistons quite a bit in the past on 1k whp builds and haven't seen a pin break yet. Pretty rare occurrence.

He has a point here. Is there signs of overheating on that pin? The picture shows like bluing on the pin ends....it seized?

Never seen one snap in half but I ripped the pin right out of the piston on a 400 lb/ft 2.0 setup (stock piston) ooops

Broke a wrist pin.... impressive. I have seen many bent pins but broken ones... thats very rare. Typically happens when a retaining clip pops out. But again rare since the pin normally can't slide far enough out to only be held in by one side. Agree with others thinking the pin tolerance was too tight.

Build has been running for years and seasons of racing if was a build issue would have manifested earlier
yes retainers were still in place
heat marks was me heating it up to get pin out

Sounds like the motor went a long time. Rebuild and move along. High power 4 cylinders that get used don't go 100k miles..
