Hi everyone, I was doing a routine boost leak test and had a significant leak. I tracked it down to the compressor cover leaking (on where it meets the center section). Ive searched for a fix but only found posts saying they used RTV. One post mentioned an O-ring but did not confim and i did not find any sort of parts breakdown showing an O-ring is available for purchase.
Does anyone have any experience fixing this?
Im sitting at 122k miles and turbo shaft play seems normal does not burn oil or any other issues.
I cant really spend the cash on a new turbo and tune and dont really want to send it to get it rebuilt due to probably costing half of a new turbo anyway.
There is a big c-clip that hold the cover to center section. Pull it to see if the o-ring is torn or messed up. You might beable to find a replacement at parts or hardware store. Worst comes to worst coat it with rtv and reinstall. Could probably find a used turbo pretty cheap if you seach around too.
Thanks guys i appreciate it. Didnt think about calling fp. Im hoping to get it torn apart this weekend to see what i find. Im in the middle of getting all the little things taken car of so its gotta get fixed soon. Either way ill post up what i find and the fix. Thanks again!
Quick update, i worked on my car today and removed the turbo assembly. I can confirm that there is an o-ring on the center section that seals the compressor cover. The o-ring was very brittle and cracked as soon as i tried to remove it. I am 100% sure that was the source of my boost leak.
I am going to try and source an O-ring locally first to try and get it fixed this week. I will update later when its fixed.
Wanted to update this thread as fixed/ solved. I was able to source an o-ring at a local hydraulic hose maker for all of 1 dollar. It was literally a 1 dollar repair haha. All of my bolts/nuts came off easy so i just went back together with some anti-seize. Boost leak test held good to 30psi.
