I’ve got an ‘05 Evolution with 106k and some mild bolt-ons (i.e. Kelford 272/272; Kelford Beehive Springs/Retainers, ARP head studs; Precision Turbo 880cc Injectors; Walbro 255lph HP and a bunch of Buschur goodies) This fall I was crusin’ home from about two hours away and when I got off the highway and pulled up to a stoplight in my hometown I got passed up by a cloud of smoke and could smell burning oil. I assumed it was someone else’s car until I got into my neighborhood and the same thing happened when I pulled to a stop alone. I got home and did a compression check. Cyl-1: 143; Cyl-2: 82; Cyl-3: 92.5; Cyl-4: 125. Some big swings and all but Cyl-1 were below the minimum limit of 138 psi per the shop manual. I then did a “wet” recheck and didn’t see a significant increase (10% or more) so my assumption was that the rings were good. I went-on to do a leak down test; Cyl-1: 88/90; Cyl-2: 25/90 (with pressure escaping tailpipe); Cyl-3: 36/90 (with pressure escaping from tailpipe); Cyl-4: 74/90 (with some pressure escaping from tailpipe). This led me to believe I had something going on with the exhaust valves or a blown head gasket.
I pulled the head off to find that the head gasket looked perfectly fine. I did however notice a ton of oil in the Cyl-2 exhaust chamber and some oil on the Valves inside the exhaust chambers for Cyl-3 & Cyl-4.
I was wanting to get some advice from the seasoned 4G63 enthusiasts what work I should have done and what to replace. Proven parts/brands to go with?
Thank you for taking the time to read through this.

Easy button is send the head to Headgames Motorworks and let Dave take care of it. He can put the right parts package in for your power level and cams, and you'll have a solid reliable head to reinstall.
Thank you LetsGetThisDone! I talked to David and am going to send my cylinder head to Headgames. They seem very knowledgeable, appear to have their own in-house machine shop and their prices seem reasonable; PLUS Dave's videos are awesome!!
