R2 cam valve springs.

Swapping from kelford 272s to gsc r2 cams. I don't rev past 8500 with my 2.3l fp black setup. Will my kiggly street steel beehive springs be fine or do I need to buy the high pressure with ti retainers? Both are capable of 0.500 lift and cam max lift is 12mm so I should be good if I'm understanding it right. I reached out to kiggly with no reply along with some others so looking for opinions. Thanks.

Best springs you can get in my opinion. Have had R2's installed in my 9 for years with GSC 5041 springs and titanium retainers. Lost a valve spring about a year ago, snapped in half, valve dropped down and hit the piston, got pushed back up and hit the cam which bent its shaft and locked it up in the head, saving the engine. I can only assume the spring failed due to fatigue, maybe not helped by the high lift that R2 cams have. I ended up replacing the complete set of springs and retainers (and a new valve, retainers, rocker etc) with another set of 5041's, don't know if any other springs would be better, but I certainly wouldn't put anything potential less capable in, you'd definitely want the best ones available for the job.

How many miles were on the spring? We usually replace them on refresh's as we start to see a larger variance in rates. Especially with the high lift of S3's or R2's. GSC's new conical springs do very well. But like anything else, things have a life cycle when building racecar stuff.

Not sure what your power goal is, but if it's sub 800whp. I'd probably go to an S2, especially if it's not a racecar.

Same thing happened with my GSC springs, but with S2 cams. Ended up using the Kiggly behive high pressure springs and converted to R2, which was probably 10+ years ago.

I guess 12 years with S2's should tell me to change my springs before grabbing R2s. Are R2s that big of a difference [2.2L] that they aren't reasonable for the street?
