Possible to drop crankshaft with engine in car?

My flywheel bolts broke loose. Engine internally is fine the crankshaft mating surface to flywheel is marred up. Transmission already is out. Has anyone replaced the crankshaft with engine in car, I know you need to remove the oil pan, oil pump cover and timing belt. But to remove the timing belt you need to remove the motor mount and drop the engine down alittle for a couple bolts. But there’s no other mount on the other side because the transmission is out. I don’t want to remove the motor if I don’t have too.

Yea you could do it inside the engine bay. There is only one mount holding the motor to the engine bay so most people take it out and do the work on a stand. The benefit being that the motor is out of the car now and easier to work on and get access to things.

As deylag said, in theory sure you could. In reality, you are like 90% there. You might as well just pull it and do the work on a stand as stated.

You need to pull the motor. All the timing components have to come off so the oil pump/front case can come off. And that has the balance shaft attached to it. Way easier to do on a stand.
