In need of the torque specs on the main bolts for an EVO 8

Hi - i'm currently rebuilding an '03 EVO 8 motor and was unable to find a set of ARP main studs in time to finish up the motor. I will reuse the OEM Main bolts and I need the torque specs if anyone has the dealer manual. Thanks for your help. Trini!

I not sure if i'm listing it right, the Main bolts are the ones on the Main Crankshaft Cap. It locks down the crankshaft from the bottom, if the oil pan was removed you will see them.

10 bolts holding the crankshaft to block

25+-2 N:m (18-+1ft-lb)

According to the manual, after tightening to 18 ft/lbs you are supposed to mark the bolts and tighten them another 90 degrees.

Shooting for 700 hp? Not with the main caps tightened to 18 ft/lbs. you aren't. But if you do, just watch your feet. You torque the OEM bolts to 18 lb/ft and then go 90 degrees torque angle from there. On the other hand, if I were building a motor that I expected that kind of power from, I would be runnin a better fastener than the stock bolt. I would get the ARPs, I think in the long run you will find that they are worth the wait.

Well...I wanted to get the ARP, but I was told that they don't make an application for the Mains....now that's what my vendor said. I think I will just call ARP myself. BTW, I was planning on locking up the motor yesterday, but due to the OEM main tq spec info issue, I decided to wait and head down to my local Mitsu dealer today and pick up the service manual. Again...thanks!

ARP does make a kit for the mains, as well as the heads for the 4G63. Its worth the investment. Get a set, run a tap down the holes to clean up the threads and install them properly. If you are going to be pushing some real loads on the motor, you want at least a good fastener to hold the girdle assembly on.

I just got off the phone with ARP - they said that the EVO 8 uses the same Main studs as the Eclipse 4G63T (90-99) ARP part #207-5401 and needs to be torque to 60 ft lbs with ARP moly. I have those in stock so everything worked out jus fine. I'm quite surprised that my vendor said that there was no ARP application for the EVO 8 Main bolts. Anyways, I always use ARP hardware on my engine rebuilds and the Rods that were using came with ARP hardware. Thanks again!
