A Question on Boost Controllers and Exhausts
A Question on Boost Controllers and Exhausts
Help me out here, I'm still new to the world of turbo cars. I just read in TPR Magazine in their EVO Exhaust write-up that the EVO needs a boost controller in order to fully benefit from the addition of an aftermarket exhaust.
They said that you won't really see an increase in power without a boost controller over-riding the OEM ECU. How true is this? I was really close to buying a RnR Turbo-back system, but if i'm not going to realize any gains, then I guess I should get a boost controller first?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm still a newb to the world of boost....Thanks for any help.

You need a boost gauge before you get a boost controller. If you have a gauge I would recommend the controller next, and the exhaust third. You can loose some boost if the ECU is controlling boost, with an aftermarket exhaust.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Most of the eletronic boost controls come with digital boost gauge so a boost gauge may not needed unless you like the easier view of the analog style or you're using manual boost control.

The EBC boost gauge is accurate as well as stand-alone boost gauge since the way they're reading the boost info is the same.
The only disadvantage is it's harder to monitor if it's a digital gauge (most EBC does) since you really have to keep an eye on the number versus looking at the analog needle swing up and down.
