The car runs perfectly well without a boost controller.

Moving this to the correct forum.

You don't NEED anything :P If you want to raise the boost then you should get a boost controller. A manual ball/spring boost controller will hold boost the best and is the cheapest, but you it takes a long time to set and you can't adjust boost on the fly. A manual boost controller will cost you $30-50. Electronics are nice because you can control boost from inside the car and many can save your settings so you can choose diffrent modes with the push of a button. Also some have logging so you can view your runs later. A good one that has a lot of nice functions and holds boost reliabley can be very expensive though, up to $500.

(1) you don't need anything .. its more a question of want.
(2) I would suggest going with something like the XEDE, more expensive but if you want an effective peformance mod without changing the engine/exhaust, imho, the XEDE is the way to go. The XEDE provides intelligent boost control and much more.

I recommend the Hallman Pro MBC...it's under $100, easy to install, and holds boost solid as a rock...
