Its normal valvetrain noise. Why are you using 5W 40 instead of 10W 40?

as long as its nrmal... i use 5w30 not 5w40. i use 5 weight instead of the 10 beause its lighter on the valve train and can release a bit more power. im thinking of going back to the 10 because of my cams. should i do this?

Its possible that the lighter weight oil is contributing to the ticking.. since its "Thinner" as long as you have oil pressure and don't suspect anything is otherwise wrong.. I do recommend going back to the 10w synthetic though.. The owners manual does say you can use 5w in extreme climates..

Oops, I meant 10w 30. I would stick with 10w.

I used 5W30 on my last oil change because the ghetto Mobil station I went to was out of 10W30 Mobil1. I also noticed my engine was ticking. I figured it was probably the oil. I only heard the ticking during idle though.

It could be Lifter lash, like on the 1g and 2g, cause it was loud when you would get it but you couldnt hear it when at idle. I evn heard a New eclipse afew days ago. But dont woory it normal for a DSM.
