The only problem I have is the getting it into reverse, that and the car is crazy hard to shift when it's cold in this 30 degree weather, other than that, and a bit of patience when it's cold (can't drive it fast then anyway) the reverse I just have to do the 1st gear then Reverse thing, or put it in reverse and pull back on it while SLOWLY letting out the clutch, then it slides in just fine.

I have the first to second grind occasionally and the fouth to fifth grind always (at high rpm).

I only voted on the 4th to 5th grind though since I truly beleive that the first to second shift is a 'nuance' of the tranny when you have an over excited right hand. However the 4th-5th grind happens even when shifting slowly.

All of my gears give me trouble except for 5th. 4th isn't really a big problem and it will always go in but it does make a screech. As far as the others go I have to shift with patience.

just got the car back from the dealership
they replaced the 3 and 4 gear.
1-5 synchros
t/o bearing
fork,springs,clutch,pressure plate
all new shims
new trans fluid
new brake fluid
all under warranty. My car had 35,550 when I took it in 16 days ago. It it still grinding going from a 3 to 4 too quickly. I beleive our transmission was not designed for such fast shifting.
I believe this for two reasons. Number one being the clutch restrictor. Number two The clutch master cylinder rod factory spec adjuctment. It goes back tomorrow. Ill update you guys on what they say.

PM me if you have specific questions. Ill answer them here. I will be calling shep racing for some pricing and will let you guys know what they say also.

I have had my 2nd and 5th gear replaced...my synchros, clutch flywheel, pressure plate, and my front bushings...All was covered under warranty...anyway once I got the car back it was still grinding in EVERY GEAR!!! anyway i took it back just the other day and now they are just going to replace the whole transmission...This means that out of the 8 months that ive owned this brand new EVO it will be in the shop over a month and a half total....

Wow, I cant believe they are covering your clutches under warranty. My clutch started slipping at about 22K miles and I've had the 5th gear synchro grind way before that. If they'll replace my clutch, I'll just sell the ACT clutch I just bought Im hoping to take my car in this coming Friday.

5th gear synco is out completely. It's been grinding for some time, and finally went out when I was up on it. I can still shift to 5th, but I obviously need to hesitate before going into 5th to avoid severe grindage. I'm taking it in as soon as I have her back from the body shop. Do the guys who had warranty work done on their tranny lines have any mods? I'm concerned that is going to rape me for modding my ride.

They're under my profile...but I have:

3" Turbo-back exhaust (including a cat-delete pipe)
AEM Short Ram Air Intake
GFB Dual-Port BOV
TurboXS Dual-Stage MBC

Those are the major performance engine mods. I'm screwed...right? I know has to prove that a specific mod caused the failure of the stock component, but with business being as bad as it is for them, I wouldn't be surprised if I have a problem.

I have ten K on my Evo. Light mods and I always shift at about 6-7K rpm. I have a stock clutch, launch about twice a week, and have never had a clutch or syncro issue. I occasionally miss second, but that is my fault, not the cars. That's my 2 cents.

^ Well, I was just like you. People had their clutches failing at 10K and 15K, I was like ok, I got a good clutch then. Well guess what mine is dead at 23K miles (and the 5th gear has been bad for a while). The car is going in on Monday, so we'll see what they say about the mods. Remember every dealership is different. I have an ACT clutch here already so if they fix teh synchro I'll just have them throw the clutch in.

Some guys got their synchros. clutch, flywheel all replaced under warranty. Im hoping for the same. LOL, were saying its my wifes car, we'll see if they arent so harsh if its a womans car

Just a quick question - I haven't seen the answer before:

Has anyone removed the clutch restricter early on and then had the grinding issue happen later?
