Angry daily grind

I have had the grinding from 4-5 since about 1200 miles. When my clutch went out before 1300 miles (fun getting that warrantied) I was told that the 5th gear syncro was bad. The TSB about the problem has been around for at least eight months. Come to find out, Mitsubishi told me that the problem could not be fixed at that time due to the fact that they had not made updated parts to fix the problem.

It seems that the trans sucks! Mine has been notchy since day one. I just added GM sycromesh (same as Pennz..) at a ratio of 2 quarts sycromesh to 1 quart of Redline 75W90. I think straight redline is too slippery and the sychros do not mesh properly this is due to the additional friction modifiers (added molecules which act as ball bearings lubricity-wise). In most cases this is a good thing but with our transmissions a no no. I added the redline for a higher thermal index and because of its higher shock loading shear. So far it seems like it will be good, based on intial drives. The car is much easier to get in gear, even from a stop....at 10 mph dropping down to 3rd is an issue no more..

I would use the beer in you avtar it might make it shift better. on Monday I am calling mitsu 800 number asking for a fix no matter what. I dont care if I have a clutch or not, I have not raced this car and the results are more than sad so far. the poll above show more the %70 of damaged trannies. Its not a drivere error anymore.

I have had issues from 4th - 5th as well, only above 5500 rpms, my friend has a evo as well and he "heard" that mitsu might be issuing a recall on the sycros

There has been another service bulliton releaced just a few weeks ago. you will not find this on any web sites yet or at least i cannot. But the bulliton list the kits needed to fix a 2-3 gear problem and the 4 to 5th problem. These are the ones i have seen in person and i can get you the part numbers if you need them as they are sitting there on the shelf for me at mitsu. Get this i took mine in for the same prob a month or so back, they said it was a recorded problem but there was no fix for the 2-3ed prob (grind/clunk) yet, only the 4-5th. So i roll out there and only ordered a few clips for my hood vent. I call to check on the hood parts and they tell me they are in with a bunch of tranny parts too. So i call my tech he read me off the bulliton that they had just got a few days prior saying the fix for the tranny probs that i have, and that he had ordered the parts for me, this was a new listing!!! he let me watch him search for the bulliton at the first time I went in there, and now this one was up. It had a date of like early september. So i start debating on what clutch to put in there cause his cool with it and will only charge me 40-60 bucks for the install. Then i drive the car for about a week and the shifting problem is gone. I dont know why its gone but now it shifts fine. If you have any mitsu probs ask for the area rep. Mine was a great guy and really wanted to make sure I liked my purchase. If your dealerships are giving you a hard time then take in this post. I took one with me the first time and my tech was like man this seems to be a big problem, he spent a good hour riding with me and trying to trouble shoot the car on the lift. Great guy so far I give mitsu a 10 for service. Sound like you guys have ****ty dealerships.

I have never shifted at that high of an rpm in 4th, what speed is that?? Also they will not put out a recall on this, because look at the poll results, not all owners have these problems. Thats why its a service buliton, to fix the cars that do have this problem. Also when my area rep drove my car, he drove it harder than i ever have. Dude was an old guy but a hell of a driver. He had driven a buch of evo's and knew of the 4-5th problem, but not of my problem. He even mentioned other dealerships giving mitsu a bad name cause they are claiming its driver abuse. He say its alot to do with the tech's I guess the job is a hard one and if they mess something up and it takes longer it can be a hastle so they try push the issue away. I feel your guys pain, good luck.

Great service you got. We are not asking for anything extra, we are just asking from Mitsu to fix their EVO tranny issue. I will call him on monday and ask for the area rep and 800 number. I am sure they will blame it on my clutch but I wont take that as an answer as it was grinding before.

then if it is not a re-call they need to send me in the mail saying:

dear customer,

if you have had issues with your EVO tranny please contact you dealer.

Mitsu

Are the parts in your sig on your car?? and will they bring up the old work order showing that you brought the car in prior for this problem?

Mitsu

Does not work this way, look up ford f150 service bullitons there are 100's of them for the same year truck. If car manufactures operated this way then it would be like junk mail. Most of the time only safty bulitons are sent out.
