got question on octane levels
mybada,
I currently get 94 octane in Ohio where I live, but I will be moving to LA (Redondo Beach) and am looking for gas stations that sell race gas (at least 100 octane). I did some searching and put in a few calls and hope to have some information soon. The 76 website and the Sunoco websites do not show any race gas stations in the LA area. However I heard there is a 76 station on south Elena Blvd. in Redondo Beach. I am trying to get verification of this as it is not on the 76 website. Sunoco does not show any stations in the entire state of Calafornia that sells race gas, i called them as well though in hopes that some new stations might have opened that are not on the site yet. I also found a plcae called Cosby Oil that is in Santa Fe Springs (apparently 30 minutes form Redondo Beach in LA County) and apparently they have pump locations for race gas and will also ship 5 gallon drums to your house or you can pick them up at their location. At any rate I will post the information for those that are interested as soon as I get it.
Back to the original question that started this thread which has now caught my interest. Does anyone know how to test the gas you buy for the actual octane rating???

Got the number for the Sunoco distributor and will call them tomorrow. As for 76, they changed their brand name to "RocketBrand" and lost their California distributor. They informed me that ther will be getting a new distributor soon. I have not heard back yet for a few other places. More to come...

mrbkkt1,
You would think it oculdbe found in Cali, but apparently it is not that easy. I am really starting to think screw cali and stay in Ohio. I talked to a 76 representative yesterday and they told me there are NO stations in the entire state of California that sells "race gas" now sold under the brand name "rocketbrand". They told me that they are workign to get a new distributor and hope to have one soon. Not exactly sure what that means and at what stations they would sell them at. Maybe the same 76 stations, just using a different distributor to buy the gas from.
As for Sunoco, there are no locations listed in Cali either. I got the sunoco distributor number and will hopefully talk to them today.
Have never heard of VP racing 103. What manufacture sell that? Is that supposed to be "BP"?
I also have a couple leads on some places that might sell gas at various pumps and there are also a few places that will deliver 5 gallon drums, but I will not have a place to store when I get there at least initially, so I am still focusing on the station route.
Since I am still in Ohio, I had a friend drive by the location where there was supposed to be a 76 that sold rae gas in the Redondo Beach area. it was supposed to be located on south Elena Blvd. The building is still ther but it is closed and all boarded up. So the search continues....
