Good question, While talking to some rally guys in Ireland that their hand brakes had work done to them allowing more control.

I looked at a wiring diagram a long time ago at what was 'supposed' to be a US ACD controller. There is handbrake lead for that very purpose. Does it actually work.

I wouldn't do it unless you're sure it's going to release the center diff. What if your front tires suddenly gain traction somehow? It could shock the transmission pretty seriously, I would think.

I know the evo 7 on had this feature but we get the USDM's version of E-ACD and no intercooler spray. I wonder if made our model special like what most Japanese companies do? This is some info i'm just curious about so I dont' break anything.

I'm actually happy that brought over 90% of the real evo MR . Subaru brought over a USDM special with the 15:1 steering and 2.5L . I have no idea what kind of a cost saving STi that is but that is why i'm driving a MR and I actually want to thank Mitsubishi. This post was out of curiousity and not a complaint.

Check your owners manual. Someone here brought up the same question and it was stated in the owners manual that the ACD disengages if the hand brake lever is pulled and if it's a certain temperature. That is also on this forum somewhere. I'm too lazy to look.

be careful when you do that though .. doesn't mean you can pull the handbrakes and convert it to a 2WD for dyno !!!!!

Somebody did it in a EVO7 and basically blew his transmission ..

The ACD logic only says it tries to release the ACD to be as open as possible .. it did not say it will stay open indefinitely or be totally open

handbrake turns should be okay ..
