I will not confront a cop or give him a hard time. It is much easier to manipulate these idiots. In my S4, I'm just a middle-aged professional. They pull me over, tell me to slow down, and then let me go.

In my EVO, they think I am just some punk kid, until they actually pull me over and see me. Then I put on the tough but respectful lawyer act -- "you don't have probable cause for a search, officer. And how did you get stuck working on Christmas day?" They let me go.

Cops are idiots.

 

My family has infuence here in the small pond I live in. Former Mayors and such. I have been given attitude twice by local law enforcement about my boy racer car. I could easilly have made a big stink that would have then rolled down hill and hit hard but why put myself on thier level? Instead, I just pointed out their ignorance in my best William F. Buckley tone and let them stew. No one can make a fool out of anyoone better than they themslves, I just hold up a mirror..

 

listen FYI dont just pay the ticket call you're insurance company and make sure you will not get surcharged for it. I had to learn the hard way 35 ticket for turn signals payed it and now i got two points for it...mad gay!

 

You seem like a nice guy but I still disagree with you in the above statement. It's true that you are exposed a little bit more than the example I had giving, the garbage man or any other individual but it's a closed system and should not be looked at the way you do.
If it wasn't for him you would probably choke to death in garbage and toxic waste people leave around. If it wasn't for someone else who works hard every day, the economy would most likely go bottom up and crime rate would increase to the point noone would be safe etc etc etc. Every profession is needed (ok except for lawyers maybe ), people just need to realize that.

Bump Okay yes i agree with the harleys that has never sat right with me. And as far as the garbage men go i never said we did need them, i was compared to them and simply asked when was the last time they put there lives on the line.

And people refer to us as tax collectors. I'll give you that, someone has to raise money for the cars we drive around in and all the equipment that we need to do our jobs, but just cause we right more tickets doesnt mean we get more equipment. It means your family or yourselves have nicer schools to go to and the roads you drive on are somewhat maintained, or how about to put murders like scott peterson in jail (court costs). So yes call us tax collectors, but i pay taxes just like you do. I dont see anymore money for the tickets i write.

And i am not defending all cops here i am defending my profession.

So lets see what i read on the post is. People dont want to follow the rules, so they dont want cops. So if there are no cops and cops suck, what about when that person murders your mother, which one of you want to handle that case? Do you want cops for that? and i know what your saying right now " how can you compare a murder to an exhaust ticket?" I will tell you, because it is the LAW and thats the bottom line. Your right it might be stupid and i have never once said i agree with the ticket, in fact i said i would never give one, but rules are in place because the people before us ruined it for us and to protect people. And dont come back on and say " well how does having my exhaust quieter protect people," well it doesnt but it does bother people maybe like your parent or grandparent and thats where the law came from, a bunch of people voted on it and it passed.

So that cool if you dont respect what i do because i dont care! Just look at the big picture and try and see how hard most cops work to keep you safe. If any of you were being shot at i would be there to save you because that is the life i chose.

And you dont want to go into racial profiling because you just have your head up your A$$. If you really want to talk about it go look at statistics or population majority of your town. I guess if 500 mexicans lived in a town with a population of 500 and one of them got pulled over by a white cop it would be reacial profiling right?

And as far as under speed limit posting goes, the cops have no say in the speed limit a group of people go out a survey the road and find the correct speed based on many things and thats where the limit comes from ( more taxes dollars)

 

Ok, but the "I'm just doing what i'm told" act is weak. Comparing a murder with underposted speedlimits is cacaphony. Obviously I appreciate officers for their useful work, but enforcing laws that are designed for revenue is just retarded. Oh and speaking out on the internet is easier than doing it when an officer has you pulled over and you know doing so will just result in you getting harrassed further. If he is gonna give me the ticket I at least want to get out of there ASAP. Oh and Texas is the only state I know of that has a night time speed limit. Texas rules

There are good cops, but not too many in California. I was almost hired by the CHP last year, I am very glad that I didn't sign on and get out of the service.

If you guys stuck to busting the people breaking the PC, and not the VC, California would be a much safer place.

I lived in California most of my life, but after I got into tuning imports, I began to hate the place. I get some big fat ticket for a "modified exhaust", that is BS, and becuase I have an intake, I get a "modified emission system" ticket. Pure hogwash.

Here in Bum*** Alabama, the cops don't even bat an eye at my modified Evo, and I like it that way!

Smokin' Evo, I am sure you are a good guy, and a good cop. You should influence your peers and not have them mess with import enthusiasts.

First paragraph: I believe everyday a Garbage Man puts his life on the line. If memory serves it, garbage men have a more dangerous job than a police officer. Think about it: they work with garbage all day. Garbage, being an wide-array of things.

Second paragraph: More money, more cops, more harassment, more time on their hands...you see where thats going.

Third paragraph: While ideal, the majority of cops are co cks.

Sixth pargraph: Thousands of the hundreds of thousands stolen? How are they found? Bullets? Crashed? Parts missing? In how many of those thousands of cases do you actually recover the car, as is? 10? 20? under 100...?

I dont know where we'd be right now, maybe still alive, maybe in a more peaceful society. Nothing happens in my town and its not because we have cops. Its just a quiet town. Hell, its funny how people think the locks on their doors will protect them. Locks only keep out the good people.

And to think this thread started out about an exhaust ticket. We live in a seriously schizophrenic country. We are supposed to be the "land of the free." But if you are not a middle-aged white anglo saxon protestant male who has a stay at home wife, 2.5 children, a dog, a house in the suburbs with a white picket fence, play golf, and most importantly, drive a Buick at 55 mph, we have the Gestapo police force in every town that will hassle you mercilessly for virtually nothing.

A cop lives down my street, about 10 houses down. My brother's stereo has been stolen 3 times, along with amps, speakers, etc. parked right in front of our house. Not just that, the area we live in is known as 'copland'...cause all the police officers live around here.

My girlfriend's house has been broken into twice with evidence present and without justice being served.

My other brother got pulled over in front of our house by the same dumb a$$ cop that lives down the street from me for no other reason that to harass him. He wasn't even on duty!!!

A CHP pulled me over because I flashed my brights at him to warn him I was coming because after writing a ticket to someone, he pulled off the shoulder into the freeway about 100 ft in front of me with me going 60 mph and him going 0! To top that off, I had to slam my brakes on to avoid hitting him...so he thinks I'm being a punk to him and decides to brake check me...TWICE! Pulls me over and says he pulled me over for illegal illumination and modified exhaust. Ha, try bruised ego..cause he f-ed up and wasn't a man enough to admit it. Oh yeah, then he lies in court.

These are just a few examples. With this kind of 'protection', who needs criminals?

...and if you think I'm biased, my mother has worked in law enforcement for over 16 years. I know and like many of her friends that are cops. In fact, I even have some that are my friends.

If anyone needs to grow up, it's you! ...and come to the realization that cops are just people too. You're not some superman. The majority of you guys walk around with a chip on your shoulder.

Oh yeah, here's another one that just happened the other day. I was riding in my girlfriend's RX-8, we were minding our own business, when some rookie dickhe@d pulls up and tries to race her. Give me a break!
