Fight it!
There are numerous resources on the net for information.

My friend got a modified exhaust ticket and took it to court and won. In fact, my friend had so much information, the cop nearly got laughed out of the courtroom by his fellow officers.

The SAE has specific testing requirements, specifically test procedure J1169.

Check out these:

...and yeah, I do. Just ask officer Newkirk of the CHP. Why do you think he lied in court? Cause he was pissed I made absolute sense when I chewed his a$$ and turned his own words around on him. I told him how unprofessional and less than a man he is. How he abused his power.

Smokin Evo,

I understand that you are proud of your job and duties and I respect your commitment to the the american citizens. Good job !

My point is that from my personal experience the Police, Sheriff and Highway patrol unfortunately missjudge people because of the type of car that they drive and the looks of the person itself.

I hear all the time from people gettin ticketed for having a oem factory spoiler, for having oem HID lights, for having a aftermarket muffler that like in this original thread was not loud enough to justify pulling this guy over.

It is plain and simple, I see the traffic violation a massive money industry, there is many more efficient way to make the Police /Highway Patrol more efficient, but it seems like giving a ticket for having an upgrade exhaust is just unfair specially when you can't prove how loud the exhaust is.

Wether you want to admit it or not there is some bad cops out there.

I'm pretty sure Fire Fighters aren't considered law enforcement, but emergency services...and they risk their lives just as much as police do.

Wrong. See my previous post on SAE J1169. This is not just a state test, but global standard.

Then why do you guys (in general, not you directly) have time to write BS tickets?

I think everyone here will agree that police are necessary. Don't try to warp the point being made; unjust tickets and harassment are just that.

Cops lie in traffic court all the time. They know the Judge will believe them in their uniforms, with their police dept. "how to testify in court" training, than the will believe you, the ricer boy speeder in gang attire in court.

My point is, get a haircut, wear a suit and tie, show respect for the court,
and GO AFTER THAT LYING COP!!! Defend your ticket.

See you guys are not reading my full posts. I have said, i think twice now, that i never agreed with the ticket and i would never right one. The only problem i have is when people get on here and start saying Fuc all cops. Read my entire post i would love to have an exhaust of my choice as long as i want. And like i said before in my post, not all cops are cool some can be to tough. And it is usually in a small town atmosphere.

And me being an evo driver myself, in the bay area, i have never once gotten pulled over or looked at by a cop in my evo. And there is nothing special on it that says i am a cop.

and ichiban give me the section of the vehicle code in ca where is says that. And i assume you meant national not global. And it is not the town i work in or around me that are giving these kind of tickets.

We probably have the most non-corrupt police in the world. To all of you bashers, please keep that in mind! I have to stand up for the man just a bit in this case.

I'm a computer tough guy because I wonder why people waste their time typing "I hate the police" diaries instead of doing something about it in the real world?

The original bill was first introduced February 23, 2001 as 2001 SB 1081. This established the 95 dbA law in California. See here:
http://www.upgrademotoring.com/sb1081_text.htm

This was further ratified September 19th, 2002: 2002 SEMA sponsored Senate Bill 1420 became law in California.

See CVC 27150.2, Section (b) for SAE J1169 reference:
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_2.htm

And yes, I meant global. If you'll examine the link in one of my previous posts, you'll see that Australia uses test J1169 for dbA testing also. Only their limit is 90dbA, whereas California is 95dbA at 75% throttle.

Smokin Evo, I somewhat agree with you. Yes, people should not be on here saying F the Police. But, you have to understand that he was angry at this ridiculous ticket. I'm glad that you recognize this is a BS ticket and would not write one. He was just blowing off steam. Part of the problem is that this is not an isolated incident. So many of these tickets have been written, that people are quick to say F the cops because, more than anything, it makes them feel better.

You're right, it is somewhat isolated to smaller, more rural areas. But, that doesn't make it any less wrong.

Also, thank you for asking for the information. An educated police officer is a friend of mine! Too often cops (in general) do not wish to hear what we (import enthusiasts) have to say. Too many times I've been talked over or completely ignored. So, I decided that the only way to combat ignorance is knowledge. Trust me, me and my friends have done lots of research.

Know your rights, guys. Know the law! Sometimes, it'll even save you from getting the ticket from being written.

Robby, chime in on this one. You know what I'm saying.

One of the best things you can to to help prevent getting some of the BS tickets we've all recieved at one time or another, is to carry a current copy of your local vehical code book.
That way when you get pulled over, simply ask the officer what code section you are in violation of. Then you can look it up right there and read it word for word.
Doing that I have persuaded several local and state officers that the reasons they orignially pulled me over for, I was not in violation of.

For example, altezza style lights. Cops here handed out tickets for them like it was instant money for the city. So when i got pulled over i talked with the office. (Key word, talked) Dont get defensive, or pissy. Otherwise they will never listen to what you say. Anyways, i walked with him for about 10 min regarding the light and how they had DOT approval (stamed onto them) and how they met the requirements of a red refletor and red alumination. There was nothing in the code about size of the reflectors or lenses. He agreed and sent me on omy way.

For the most part cops are cool, and they will treat you with the respect you give them. However there are a few (typically on motorcycles) that are just there to hand out all the tickest they can. If you get pulled over by them just take the ticket and beat it in court. There is no better feeling than making a court room of officers and ppl laugh at a fellow officer for getting told he wrote a BS ticket by a judge.

Carrying the code book with you is cheap insurance (like $5 at the DMV cheap). We've been doing this for like 5 years now. But be warned though, it's like carrying the Bible. Some officers are really helpful and will go through it with you, while others immediately get bent and think you're belittling them. Typically, this is right before you're about to prove them wrong.
