Mustang is better than EVO???
This list does prove one thing... The Evo is America's top choice in its class. Many of those other cars are icons with 1/2 a century of history, or unique newcomers. I think that the fact that the Evo is on this particular list says a lot about how popular it's become, considering America's obsession with it's "glorious" past.

THe GTO is a great car. I like the appearence of the 04 to the 05 because it's more understated. A hot rod that a grown man can drive. There are people on Edmunds that have been able to buy 04's new for around $20,000 with all the rebates on them. The 05's will do 60mph in around 4.7 seconds and although they probably don't handle well compared to the EVO or the STI, the straight line performance is terrific. If I had known you could buy these at such steep discounts, I wouldn't have bought my Forester XT.

Ah, Steiner, I see you're point. You're absolutely right, I bash anything American...

The engine is now all aluminum (I think, correct me if I'm wrong), and is either a SOHC or DOHC. Either way, the technology isn't all bad. The car is pushing 300 to 305 hp (about), which seems inefficient to a turbocharged car such as ours, but keep in mind it is producing significantly more torque and its NA.
Finally, in terms of performance. 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds is not all that bad for a rwd car with crappy factory tires. Actually, thats pretty good since it could easily be dropped with some stickier tires and a good driver. The trap speeds do not seem to be much higher than the Evo, maybe even lower. I don't know how much the new 'Stang weighs, but it may be hurting trap speeds. Also, the live axle will suck a bit more power from the drive train, so it may have higher losses and that would account for the trap speeds.
Finally, yes, the new Corvette kicks some serious ***. The new Z06 will wail on just about everything including the Viper (or at least it will compete very well with it).
Oh, but hold on a second. You called me a militant Mitsubishi fan boy? Well, how about another quote (for me no less)...
Frankly, I'm surprised the Evo MR even made the list.
Steiner: Get over yourself. The '05 GTO does a 13 sec. quarter mile with ONLY 400 hp? Yeah, sorry bud, but that sucks. I guess its good for Pontiac though.
Nasti: I'm actually surprised the STI didn't make the list, thats why I said that.
Personally I'm at all not surprised with the Mustang being the people's choice. A lot of people I know really like the new Mustang, both in pictures and in person.
I was actually looking forward to the re-design when the first prototypes came out (1967-68 mustang is one of my favorite cars of all time) and was impressed when I finally saw one at the dealer.
HOWEVER,
Underneath the candy coated exterior, I was less then impressed. The interior is not much better then the Evo, and in some ways worse. The gauges were rather hard to read, they are set extremely deep.
They shrunk the back seat, (and you thought last years mustang has a small back seat). It's wider in the back, but less legroom the previous year.
The trunk is laughable, it's big, but not very deep. The car however, is bigger then the previous year, both longer and wider. I was surprised how big the car was from the outside.
Regarding the live Axle on the back, when they were going about a re-design they sent out some survey's and the biggest thing that enthusiasts were looking for was a solid rear axle. Ford was actually surprised, because they were considering an IRS setup originally.
All in all it's a pretty car on the outside and they did a very good job of modernizing the classic mustang look. I was just disappointed in how cheaply they skimped on the interior. It was rather disappointing.

that new mustang GT did beat a WRX in a comparison test.
So, you know, I think the new mustang is better performer than the last one. but it's ugly and I don't like it.
They use that retro BS design too much. idiots can't come up with an original idea anymore...

Personally I like when they actually do a good Retro re-design, considering that since the 80's the mustang was pretty much butt ugly. At least Ford designed the Mustang to a more pleasant look instead of keeping last years design.
In comparison, the new GTO, to me it's just too bland on the outside. All they did was just tweak an existing RWD car from Australia and called it the GTO. They didn't even re-design the outside, they just smoothed a few edges out. It's just a very plain design. A true disappointment from the outside, but inside they got that part right.
To each his or her own I guess.
Some people like the way 80's caddies look. Me, well lets just say it's not my cup of tea.

wow... this is starting to sound like SRT4 forums..... Bunch of whining and crying over NOTHING. It's readers choice. HELLO not many import owners read car and driver. DUH!
Oh yeah they are laughing at you too. DONT ruin their thread by trolling, you guys are doing the same thing here they are doing there.

it's not a readers choice in my eyes. I studied design and it's dumb looking car.
i think just stating that makes you a troll. badevo. lol whatever that means, troll (some teenage reincarnation of "butthead")

No, it just means that I am intelligent enough to be able to read on a forum that is not specific to my car and respect the capabilities of that car.

Consider yourself in the minority. Being a reader's choice means that the majority of the people think that it's a great car. Consider the type of readers that read that mag. We import enthusiasts are a minority of the readers.
This "butt ugly" design as you put it (In your huble opinion) is well recieved by not only Mustang fans, but people who would never even thing to look at a mustang. Most of my female friends are acutally drooling over this car. It seems to be the new "chick car" (for lack of a better way of saying it. The other group of people who really like it are the orginal mustang owners (1965-70). It really appeals to the nostalgice portion of that crowd, especially since they want something more modern and soft (in comparision to a 67' fastback that is).
Some of the best car designs out there most people don't like. It not nessasarly about "good flowing design". Sometimes it's about Nostalga and appeal to the general masses.
Design is subjective, with the new mustang they hit the target they wanted to with the masses.
You however, march to a different beat, which is by all means, your choice.
Just because you feel strongly about something doesn't mean most people feel the same way. Unfortunatly, most people are sheep, they will go for nostalga and familarity over something "cool" most of the time.

Several pages of pointless drivel. I'm considering an Evo VIII as a winter beater, it would function well in that capacity...the Cobra does not go in the snow.
The point being, each car was manufactured for a specific niche. To miss that would be putting sheer ignorance on display. One may have scored higher than another on some listing somewhere, but in the real world (where we don't have to sell magazines) we each drive a car that fits our needs or personality.

Design is not subjective. It's always objective goal (aerodynamics/function) then subjectivity.
anyway, whatever, hang with the dim witted people too long, i'll start talking like one. lol
