gtr,

Did you not see the tech spec manual that was posted here. Mitsu showed that we are getting that fancy new badging, thus the evolution of the Evolution j/k

On a serious note I was having doubts a couple of months ago about the Evo, but now I am getting more and more excited about the chance to own one. I think that the point that gtr is trying to make is that over the years Mitsu has driven the point that the Evo evolves with each new itteration. Mitsu has stated that the ACD and AYC (not arguing the pros and or cons of these two features so please don't attack me here) were part of that evolution. Now the Evo is in the states for the first time and while it is very exciting and just incredibly cool, we look across the pond and the Japanese version still gets AYC and ACD and a 6-speed tranny. Sounds like theirs has evolved. In a sense ours has evolved since we have never had them here before. I do agree that AYC and ACD are no big issue and that I would much rather have a tried and trued 5 speed over being a guinea pig on a 6. I think that gtr does have a valid point as to the motivations of Mitsu. It would be interesting to see what exactly are the differences between USDM and JDM Evos. Might even be helpful for some to get ideas on how to make their USDM Evo a little better. In summation, can't we all just get along.

Good point Claudius, but the JDM version also receives those "evolutions", I think it is probably more a stateside feeling that due to our crappy gov regs we get the shaft. Not Mitsu's fault but frustrating nonetheless. It seems we evolve but everybody else gets to evolve more.

with the response on the current evo8 by US buyers, i am sure they will bring those later on. if you sell the evo at a higher price because of these, they might not receive it warmly.

I have driven an Evo 7 RS and a European STI on a rally stage (Col de Turini). That's what I base my opinion on.
Strange for somebody interested in performance cars.
Looks like you are just for EVO and prefer to ignore other options around. Good for but I will make my decision based on my detailed research looking at both cars. I had GSX and WRX already and I can tell WRX was way more reliable then GSX.
And from my first experience with and Subaru dealers I can tell I am way better treated in the former one (where I have an STi deposit for MSRP without obligation to buy it).
So let the specs and reviews coming.

Sure, but that doesnt make the US Evo any less good, does it?

I can see that. Too bad you have got these performance reducing emission laws. But you'll get an exhaust and ECU anyway, right?
Any less good than the JDM version maybe, but according to people with lots of experience like yourself maybe not. Most of us will never get the chance to compare the two so not really a big deal.

Exhaust, ECU, Intake a must of course. Still have to pass emissions on command though as the county I reside in has the toughest in the state of Texas.

Cause we are not going to buy neithr of them now in US. We have two different cars to choose from.
And you claim no interest in even checking what is new in one of them?

I am indeed in favor of the Evo, but that is due to having driven and been taken in lots of cars. If someone makes a better car, I'll buy that.
And you still do not know what STi will bring to the table, don't you?

Since when does someones experience with vehicles that shape their opinions about what they like and dislike not count. Don't think Claudius is telling you what or what not to buy, just giving you his impressions based on his experience. That's why they have that little thing called a test drive so you can make your own impressions about it before you buy it.

You did not understand my point.
He said he is "No, I didnt. Not interested." when I asked if he read a STi8 preview. This is strange for me.

Fortunately for Claudius he doesn't have to settle for what we have here in the states. If I'm not mistaken he lives overseas and has easier access to the cool ****.

As far as not knowing what the STi has to offer nobody stateside does know what to expect. I kind of compare this to the computer industry. As soon as you buy something next week there will be something faster, slicker, better. But if you just sit idley by and wait then you never end up getting anything. So you do your research and buy one that is capable and that you can tweak to make it faster, slicker, better. True it would be nice to be able to compare side by side the Evo and the STi, but right now it is not going to happen. So what will happen is some will wait and be happy that they waited if they like the STi better or be disappointed that they wasted all that time not enjoying the EVO. Like wise some will buy the Evo and 6 months later say "damn I could of had a STi." While others will be happier that they got the Evo.
