LoL. No worries.

Just happy to continue this discussion.

Like I said... assumptions are pretty much all we've got at this point.

Codemonkey: No, I've had the Camry since December "96 (it's a '97). I just didn't want a WRX because of the open diff, so I waited. Good thing, huh?

I am 99% sure I will be sticking with my ordered Evo.
reasons:
stereo - I will eventually do a full install, but this probably won't be for a while. I don't want to spend $1500+ on a full setup right away, and I want something of a stereo right away.

looks - I don't like the way the GDA looks. I like the GC8 more, but I think the Evo looks better. I also prefer the interior of the Evo/Lancer over the WRX. IMO Subaru's interiors have gone downhill in the past few years. Quality is fine in both cars, I just like the uncluttered plain interior that the Lancer has.

performance - Subaru has a tendency to overrate HP and MMC has a tendency to underrate HP. Evos have traditionally out performed WRXs of similar HP & performance. This may not be the case with the STi Vs the Evo this time around though - stock anyway.

engine - I don't want a 2.5 L "rally car". I will probably never drive my Evo off road, but I still enjoy it's racing heritige. It's the same reason I think Chevrolet needs to release a 427 cid Vette. The Z06 is an amazing car, there is no doubt about that... But I think it would be cool as hell if they released a 427 just to make a version that is very similar to their La Mans winning C5R.

finally, it's a subaru. I know way too many people that have had problems with their subarus, WRXs in particular. My roommate has a 2001 WRX and has some clutch & tranny problems. If you look at the i-club you can see dozens (if not hundreds) of complaints of denal of warranty by Subaru. Finally, after owning a Subaru for the past 3 1/2 years, I am sick to death of them on a corporate level. I have never been treaded so poorly by a car company/dealership after the purchase.

I am not bashing the WRX or the STi, so don't flame me. I prefer the Evo for various reasons, some are personal to me.... I wish the Evo had a LSD up front and a 6-speed tranny. I can live without AYC & ACD cause to me, simple is better here... and I probably won't ever be able to drive a AYC & ACD Evo to know what I am missing. I was thrilled when the WRX was launched, and I am happy Subaru is bringing over he STi, especially in it's current level. I just don't want one....

True, some Subarus have tranny problems, I've had a bearing replaced. No complaints on warranty, just that it took a month to get a tranny/tranny part in and installed.

But Mitsu has its share of problems as well. All my friends with Mitsus have taken their cars to the shop numerous times, for countless stupid reasons. So I wouldn't say Mitsubishi is any better. It all comes down to what car you want, and if you can deal with the tranny problems, or deal with the engine problems. Similarly, I used to own a Land Rover...even though it's famous for leaking oil, I was into Land Rovers.

Of course there are owners of both sides who hasn't had a problem yet. Once you try AYC/ACD, I'm sure you'll be happy you had it. And different owners have different reasons of their car purchase. For me, I like to drive in all conditions, without limitations.

I was waiting to hear this from someone... seems everyone else has forgotten about this. The 227hp in a WRX is only if you're running race fuel and get really lucky... I've heard reports it's typically as low as 210 or more.

I've also heard from people that the Evo 7's that they've seen are suppose to be 280ish, but are actually closer to 300 when they get them.

I have yet to see a WRX dyno at more then 175 HP (227 claimed)stock...
the last dyno I saw on an Evo7 was 240+ (276 claimed) stock...

I dig the WRX for what it is (and what it isn't), and without it, the is zero chance the Evo would have come to the US.

My main problems with my outback has been basic build quality. I have pieces of trim throughout the car that are simply falling apart. Subaru has also been a pain in the *** with getting warranty work done, a HUGE pain in the ***. 3 years ago when the rumors of a forthcoming WRX were taking steam, I expected I would own one of the first off the boat. I had a reservation at my Scooby dealership. I didn't end up buying one because I bought my RX7 as my toy car. Now, there is very little chance I will ever own a Subaru again. I have never owned a Mitsubishi, but I know a bunch of DSM guys in town, and none of them have had the problems that the WRX guys have had. I have read that the clutch/tranny problems where basically taken care of, but I still don't trust Subaru very much.

Wup, sorry...it's actually the JDM engine that's twin scroll. But I don't think the US market will need it-JDM engines only get 2.0.

I don't see why everyone is all of a sudden jumping to the STi in the last minute? Where is your devotion? Would you abandon your favorite sports team just because they started losing games? Would you abandon the U.S. if Iraq offered you a million dollars annually, and gave you a free house? I mean come on guys! Also the way I see it:
STi: 2.5L, 300hp, 300 lb/ft of torque translates to 120hp/liter,120lb/ft per liter.
EVO: 2.0L, 271hp, 273lb/ft of torque translates to 135.5hp/liter and 136.5lb/ft per liter. Enough said.
The EVO is more potent and costs less. Not to mention that Subaru is going the way of muscle cars and needing extra space to make power, inefficient and not the way of imports.
Then again, if Subaru started making FMIC, then I might start to consider.

Brand loyalty is absolutley and utterly retarded. Im sorry, but it needs to be said.

Hp and lb/ft per liter is a completley useless point. It serves no function, whatsoever.

Wow, who really cares if Subaru bumped up the displacemnt? I sure as hell dont. If anything, it makes it easier to make more hp saftely.

"not the way of imports"... is there such a thing, or are you making all this up?

No FMIC?...get one...

Assumption as good as $1000. We have to wait for this one. I am sure Subaru wants to be in the same ballpark for comparo tests. $5K difference would ruin this.

By bet (based on assumptions around comparing the Evo-VII versus the previous WRX and WRX STi) that the Evolution will win #1 as well... based on better handling and almost identical performance for a few thousand less....
Did you hear everybody driving STi 8 is claiming Subaru listened this time and fixed understter and low torque problems?
Check http://www.apexjapan.com for one of these.
