With an equal lenght header, you lose the lumpy Harley sound on the EJ motors.

Interestingly enough, that was one of the things that drew me to Subaru. When I live in Japan for all of those years, I used to wonder why the Impreza's and Legacies sounded like V8's or something, because I knew they were 4 bangers. I just likes the sound.

You know what they say: "To each his own."

Porsche man, Porsche.
What great Porsche's have 4cylinder Boxer engines? I would agree a 6 cylinder 911 sounds good, but the little Boxter? No thanks.

Actually, the Porsche and Subaru boxxer engines are quite different.

A boxer engine is still a boxer engine. They all sound somewhat the same be it porsche, subaru, lycoming Just at various states of tune and muffling.

That's my whole point.

Then Ben said

If you say so. I still think a lumpy almost misfiring sounding WRX motor doesn't belong in the same sentence as the wonderours sounds a Porsche 911 engine makes. By that logic all "V" motors should sound the "same" As in the 3.1L V6 in my 10 year old Pontiac should sound the "same" as Z06's V8 or a Ferrari v12, just in various states of tune.

Right.

"i have heard from i-club that the WRX had ECU and tranny problems "

Those tranny problems are from people doing AWD burnouts in their cars. The WRX tranny is decently weak, but AWD burnouts in either the STi or Evo will produce similar issues...breaking!!!

Look, a boxer engine in general has a distinct sound to it. They're all similar, is that so hard to understand. Not the same, but similar. You must have been listening to a WRX with a full turbo back and no cats, cause they don't sound like you describe stock. Run a porsche with an open exhaust and it would sound similar. Anyway, you obviously don't get it, not worth the time to me to discuss it anymore.

Wow the sti post are catching up

It looks like drive by wire for the sti? Would you trust subaru in regulating throttle? Bad news for tuners. Subaru loves adding anti mod goodies like the no dump clutch setup on 03 wrx and timming pull computer which U-Tec can fix now.

The only real fear of d-b-w is if the engineers implement a similar strategy to Audi, eliminating any possibility of LFB with full throttle - that would be disasterous. But that can be accomplished with a mechanical throttle as well, if the ECU sees the brake light sensor, so all systems can screw you up.

Other than that they can have at it, who cares ?

What kind of drive train is ZO6? RWD

Your missing the point. The fact is that the sti is an AWD car. Most people launch AWD cars to achieve timeslip. How do you think a 227hp wrx is able to get low 14's and 0-60 in 5.5sec? 97 Z28 camero achieve the same with 285hp. Get my point? 60ft is what gives us the advantage by dumping or slipping at 5-6K rpms. If you try at 4 grand the car will bogg down to 2K rpm = turbo lag and 15.9Sec quarter mile on the stock wrx for me at lease.

Since subaru decided add a device at slows enguagement of the clutch on the 03 WRX every time you dump it you burn your clutch saving your weak trans. Subaru had so much trans issues because AWD cars have more strain. Instead of adding a stronger trans this was a cheap fix.

In theory I myself is worred that subaru tries to pull that kind of stunt with the drive by wire. Probably cheaper to regulate your driving and harder to tune.

On a ZO6 you already have 400hp. How many people add a lingenfelter supercharger or turbo..You might need a new computer for that! My point is that U-TEC took 2 year before solving the timing issues and if Subaru pulls another stunt like that I might take time to make it go fast. Just something to consider that's all.
