Unhappy Why generalize me ? Why can i not be an exception to the RULE !!

I am a young driver !! there i said it. i am 18 years old and i drive an EVO 8.
All i would like is to be able to join into a community of other EVO / Mitsu owners
it seems that some people feel the need to bash young drivers in many of the forums.
sure i am young an i own a sports car which i work full time to pay for. so i can see how i could become infront of the scope on some of these comments. i have waited untill i was almost 18 to get a car and my licence so i could afford something better then the common beater my age group drives. since i was 15 i worked 3 years and saved 9,000 to put down on a car of my choice. I can ashure you that i am not a punk, my mission is not to raise others insurance rates by wrecking my car. nor to race every car i see. but just to be involved in a community of fellow evo owners. it seems i could not do so seemlessly and i have now picked up the steriotype of being immature or a young punk kid that has a car his mommy paid for. That is not me. i am just looking to drive a supirior car and make friends doing so. So i ask now can i join the EVo community ? without my steriotype ?

It's all based off statistics. Tell your friends to be more careful and older people won't have anything to base a stereotype off. We all were, are, are going to be 18. Unless you die early, everyone experiences what it's like. Just live through it. It will be ok.

I am 17 now but was 16 when I bought my EVO. I have not recived any form of stereotyping form any members of this site to this point. I believe that a major reason for people harsh reaction to young EVO owners is the way they come across. If you act like a child many will come down on you. But if young owners act mature then we can slowly gain the respect. Just watch out for the few who will take every oppertunity to ruin it for everyone.

If anyone is being an *** to you it's not because of your age but your poor grasp of the english language. Maybe you should have studied harder in school instead of working full time?

Don't worry about it beefy, those of us that are younger, or don't care, accept you with open arms...and regardless, you still own an Evo...the people who are doing the stereotyping arent the people you want to take advice from anyway

I'm only 19, and frankly I'm not surprised with the stereotypes. Not too long ago a kid came on just like you, saying "I'm mature, blah blah blah" and sure enough he wrecked his evo within the week. I'm not saying you'll do the same but really when you got that happening and just the general attitude of the majority of the youth, can you blame people? Just look at how thuggish some people act, thats a great sign of their maturity.

i think you are making to big a deal out of it. Young drivers are notorious for doing stupid things, i know i am only 20. When i was 18 i was arrested for street racing. I have grown up a lot since that. you are not going to get around the fact that you are young, but if you act mature many will not stereotype you in that way. people will always assume because you are young this, and that. Make them eat their words.

If you are the "exception to the rule", and you're a mature, good driver, then that means that the "rule" is that younger drivers suck...

But seriously, for me, the real issue is experience, not age. Some people grow up driving go-carts, ATVs, and stuff like that (even video games help), and have a good understanding of driving. Others are quick learners. But in general, it takes experience to make a really good driver. For example If you've never pulled yourself out of a hydroplane, how can you be confident that you'll be able to deal with it? Just like sports, school, and anything else, practice and more practice makes you better. In general, someone who's 30 will have significantly more practice than someone who's 17, and that does make a lot of difference.

Think of it like an NBA rookie: You can have a ton of talent, but you gotta learn the NBA game. Sure, there are some LeBrons of driving out there, but for every one, there are 1000 Kwame Browns...

i am in the same age group.. no one really sterotypes of even cares how old you are..
just how you act.. you can be 80 and act like a 10 yr old.. or 18 and act like a 10yr old.
point is. doesnt matter how old you are. no one cares.
its usually the "younger" people that act like jack asses.
