Noticed something interesting...

So friday I decide to change my own oil for the first time, no biggie I thought. So I drain the oil from and the pan and I go to remove the filter. I fitted the oil wrench to the new filter that I bought beforehand and it wouldnt even fit on the filter that was on my car. Mitsu was the last people who did my oil change, so I'm wondering WTF is this oil filter. Then I remember they had a part number change so I call mistu and there like we got the old oil filter and the new one right here and theyre very similar in size. Hmmm, I wondered...

After struggling with this really narrow filter I get it off by using a oil wrench that had a "belt" type grip instead of a metal one. I get this filter off and it DOES NOT look ANYTHING like the one I bought from Mitsu. It was much taller and skinnier. I checked the parts number of the new and old filters and it didn't match up either. I dunno what they did but it certainly wasn't the right one.

So I get the oil changed and all that jazz, and I check for leaks - standard procedure, you know. I drive off and I notice the car just feels better, don't know how to describe it (smoother maybe). I'm not getting those weird boost cuts anymore either (The car used to just not accelerate as fast as it usually does sometimes, inconsistent performance). Could a wrong oil filter do anything to the car performance wise or am I just imagining things?

Also, should I complain to Mitsu? What should I say?

Maybe that oil filter restricted the oil flow of your engine, but i doubt it has to do anything with your boost cut. I would go to the dealer and get on their case to put the wrong oil filter on.

We'll its not boost cut I just couldnt think of another reason for it to have weird inconsistent acceleration. Runs better now

The oil filters are only different in capacity, otherwise they are interchangable. Mitsubishi specifies a MZ690116, they installed an MZ690072. There should'nt be any difference in the way the car drives.

your car will always feel better/smoother after an oil change :]. i rmemeber someone saying my car sounded like it was crying, and then after a change (not even a filter change just the fluid) it was free revving (heel toe) much happier.

Even though my friends laught at me for this, any car I ever had, ive noticed a little life back after an oil change, alot smoother ( might be just in my head).
