Clunking knocking noise from Front of my Evo??

Ok I tried searching but didnt find my problem. I recently drove my car from NY to south FL (about 1500 miles) and at somepoint midway in the trip I noticed it was making a thumping sound that sounded like it was coming from under the passenger side floorboard in the front. I made my gf drive and sat in the passenger seat and I can actually feel it in my feet in the floor of the car when it makes the noise. The weird thing about it is, it ONLY does it at slow speeds, more often on slight turns, BUT it doesnt do it ALL the time. It will do it occasionally throughout the day. I thought it was the transfer case maybe but then after reading the symptoms of a bad transfer case I dont think thats what is wrong. Its really annoying me at this point, and since I just moved down to FL I dont have my tools with me, and I dont know any dealerships to even go to, plus I have mods so I just figure they wont do anything anyway. I dont really understand what could have happend driving my car on the highway the whole time NOT beating on it at all cause I had alot of stuff in the trunk and backseat. I even had turned the boost down to 12 psi cause I didnt want the extra weight to put any loads on the engine. I read about the front suspension thump but this doesnt happen on bumps. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks

Welcome to suspension clunk noise. I believe what is occurring is that the stops on the top of the mounts for the shocks are hardened. When the shocks actuate to the top of its stroke, the noise you hear is being translated through the now hard stop into the body of the car. I have the same problem. When I accellerate or decel , which loads the shocks due to vehicle weight shift under these conditions. It also occurrs during slight turns and minor bumps. I am considering taking my car to the dealership. We'll see how it goes.

Tim

I have this same problem, but with the front driver's side. It seems like it comes and goes, doesn't happen all the time. When it does happen, its usually when I'm making a turn or going over a bump.

I haven't had the time to take it to the dealer, but if you figure out what it is.. do post!.

I had the same thing happen to me a year ago and it just started happening again. It was just my front sway bar that needed to be re tightened and adjusted. The dealer will fix it under waranty, but its kind of annoying that its happening again.

Took mine to the dealer because of the same noise they removed some debris from the upper struts and tightened the suspension bolts. That was about three days ago and it seems to have taken care of the problem but, we'll see...

What is adjustable on the swaybar? I found a post about the endlinks going bad and needing replacement. I might just try to buy new endlinks if they are not too expensive cause my car is lowerd and has aftermarket wheels so Im sure the dealer will not cover any suspension problems. I really hope its just that easy to fix. Thanks for the replies

endlinks are 45 each. If you are doing that go with the perrin ones for not a whole lot more

Did you follow through with this? Did it solve your problem? (I'd recommend the Perrin end links as well. I have them on the rear, very nice upgrade to the stock parts)

I'm getting that random, very faint clunk on the passenger front also at low speed cruising. I have JIC Coilovers with pillowball mounts, stock front swaybar, MR Titanium strut brace.
