Different Evo Models (I may seem very stupid)

I don't understand this...
I see Evo GSR's and GS and random names.
Yes I do know of other GSR cars and stuff like that. But I can't find any info on an Evo 8 GSR so maybe I just dont understand what GSR means?

Can someone tell me all the Evo 8 models and why its named that?

Thanks

The standard EVO 8 is basically what the rest of the world calls the EVO GSR. In other markets there are many lancers, lower power autos for example. We now have 3, the EVO 8, which is reffered to as the GSR, the RS and the MR. Mitsu might have shown up to the fight a little late, but until Subaru brings the STi RA over, we've got a leg up on em!

Actually, it's not an "EVO" in the U.S.A. either. That name is apparently already trademarked here. It is a "Lancer Evolution."

Rich, you have to admit though...I would presume most if not all owners of Evos say they have Evos not "Lancer Evolutions"

I always state its an '03 Evo 8 GSR regardless if its not the exact nomenclature

Judging by your screen name and sig...I'd say it's still an EVO in the USA.

Sure you would, but the point RichardEvo made is that mitsubishi can't call the car an 'evo'. Somebody else already holds that trademark. So, the 'official' name is and will have to remain Lancer Evolution.

EDIT: GSR comment baleeted!

This thread has a lot of info and explains virtually every version of the Evo, dating back to the first Evolution:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=122473

Info about the VIII starts on post #35 with the GSR, then RS, MR, FQ, Extreme, and Ralliart Sport models, although it predates the FQ-400 and IX - so no info on those...
