Need help w/ autometer EGT gauge!!

I have the cobalt autometer egt gauge and my temp reads 10 when its at idle and about 11 1/2 -12 when im driving and about 13 at WOT when racing. Are these temps too high or normal? the gauge reads in farenheit, so everything is multiplied by 1000 i believe. Also when i leave the car off for the night, the next day the egt gauge already reads 1 before i even turn on the car, so im kinda confused, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

#1, where exactly did you mount the sensor?

did you splice the wires that go from the sensor to the gauge?

your WOT temps look way low.

answer the above and we'll get ya a better solution

yeah, temps seem low and have too small of a range so you might want to check to make sure everything is hooked up correctly and the sensor is mounted in a good spot (its x100 btw, so 10 on the gauge would be 1,000*F). the probe should be mounted in the exhaust manifold before the turbo, and shouldn't be too close to either the block or the turbo.

on my last car (defi gauges on a turbo integ gs-r... my evo is still stock :/) my readings were around 15 at WOT after consistent boosting, 6.5 at idle and 10.5-13 during normal driving. these guys take it to an extreme with a 4th gear dyno pull: http://files.implux.net/evo7glowing.wmv, but glowing manifolds aren't uncommon.

if you believe your gauges are reading correctly, then you are probably running slightly rich, which is OK (safe for the engine) -- these numbers are definitely not too high.

im sorry about that i forgot to put something important. Its mounted on cylinder #2 on the manifold. About two inches away from the engine, and the temps at wot when racing are a little higher about 14, and yea it reads X100 on the autometer (farenheit) so any help?

I would also like to know what the "correct" range of EGT temps are...no sense in having a gauge if you can't understand what it's trying to tell you, right?

1400 at WOT... i'd say you're running really rich...

on an autometer, keep it under 1600 and you're fine

oxygen burns hotter than gasoline, so the hotter the EGT gets, the more lean you are running. too high of EGT temps = bad for engine. if you have a gauge with a warning light, id set it at around 1500 (assuming you have a stock/conservative tune) to let you know to tone it down a bit before something goes wrong... with extended times of high exhaust gas temperatures you also have to worry about the oil temperature getting too high, because oil is used not only as a lubricant but also as a coolant for (most) turbochargers.

Well it is running under 1400 F, i was just wondering if it was too high, also when i leave the car off over night; next morning i get in the car right and the egt gauge reads 100 so its kinda weird.
