on an open freeway at 2-3am... i gun it up to 125-130mph, then i hear this loud pop crack that sounded like it came from the front area of my car. not sure if it came from under the hood or not; i can't remember quite well... wtf could it have been? when i got home i inspected my car all around, wheels, underneath, under the hood, i can't see any dents or any cracks etc.. and my car sounds and drives as usual.. i have no clue what it could have been and it's bugging me not knowing.. it could be 1001 things and i have no idea where.. so i ask if anyone has had a similar experience.. perhaps i ran over a small rock and it bounced off somewhere inside me wheel well? this sux, but my car seems to drive ok?

 

One time I was merging on the highway at 100+mph (at 1am) and a semi-truck that was next to me.. but further ahead blew a tire and I didn't see it. All of a sudden it came down right in front of me and I never saw it and I ran it over.. I thought I hit a great dane dog or something. It was HUGE. I slowed down but couldn't see anything. I thought my car was really messed up. I got home and saw all the black marks on my front bumper, undercarrige, and rear bumper where the tire came out. It sucked..

I dunno man, maybe you hit a little rock or something. At those high speeds even a pebble can be really loud. Check over the next few days to see if you have any fluid leaks to be sure.

 

What rpm and gear are you at, could be fuel cut.

 

^^ hmm... i was in 5th gear, so i'm not sure if it was fuel cut off.. i don't recall exactly what rpm i was at but i'm pretty sure i was at least a good 1000 under redline.

man... this is gonna bug me for awhile.. in one hand, if my car continues to be ok, then it will be ok but i will never know what caused that noise. on the other hand, if a problem shows up and logically related to that noise, then at least i'll know what it is and get it fixed under warranty. i have no mods...

but of course, i hope i don't have any problems that come up in the future that relate to that noise. baaaahh.. i dunno.. i was on the freeway and i never ran over a stone on the freeway to create a noise.. wierd.. then again, as the guy before your post mentions, it could have been just a small pebble, and at high speed with these sticky *** tires, it could have whipped up and smacked somewhere underneath the wheel well..

i guess i just have to forget about it and move on and hope for the best..
