This thread is out of control

I agree though, warranty becomes a weak point because even if Subaru is better, it is marginally better. Meaning not by much, if at all.

Anywho.... The STi has some problems that make it more sensitive to the eyes of those who own the beast that is the 4g63. The STi bottom end is capable of handling well over 600 hp, it just took a while for people to do it. As many have said so far, the amount of plumbing the STi has makes tuning for it very difficult. The Turbo in the STi is located far back in the bay, whereas the Mitsu turbo is right behind the radiator. So when the STi switches to a front mount, which it has to for high power, the tubing gets much longer.
The pistons are very strong in the STi. Yes, they are cast, but their silicon coating makes them quite stronger than a regular cast piston, but not quite on par with a forged. So, when an engine has strong detonation in a high powered motor, the pistons can bust.
As a whole, the engine is far from weak. But, it simply is not as refined as the 4g63 on some levels. What bugs me is that we are the only country that gets a cast piston. If we got forged a lot of this 'weak engine' talk would not exist.

In sum, the STi engine is NOT weak, it just is not as strong as the EVO's. The EVO owners should not, however, act like the STi engine is weak because it doesn't consistently hold as much power as yours.

Ok enough evo vs sti or evo vs wrx talk. I think this is getting out of hand. Now back to the topic.

WHERE ARE THE VIDS!!! LOL

I've seen the 10.06 AMS vid where it raced that dsm before it exploded.

hey... i can admit if a car's respectable or not... and a STi is that...

and it's not that we're the only country that doesn't get a forged piston in a STi... we're the only country not to get the real STi engine period... the real one, the 2.0L, is an iron block w/ forged internals over seas if i'm correct on this still, or did the rest of the world start using the 2.5 too???

No, well, the Spec-C also uses a 2.5L motor, and the WR1. For the most part, however, the 2.0l engine is used overseas. I believe the 2.0l overseas is a closed-deck as well.

Oh and the 2.5l in the spec-c gets the works meaning forged and etc... it is a lot better than the bottom end we get here.

I get what you're saying though, the overseas 2.0l is stronger.

No, neither of these is true. The Spec C and WR1 are both 2.0L. (raise your hand if you've ridden in one) The Type 25 is a spec C with a 2.5L block, but that's not a production car.

Anyhoo, has no one mentioned the almost 15 year R&D advantage the 4G63 has? I suspect that helps.

Well, I'm sorry but most of the big players with Subarus don't live in the midwest. Good amount of mildly modded cars in Chicago but most of them don't have projects done by this time of the year nor want to waste vacation time yet for a drag race that isn't gonna be sided very well to Subaru participation(the'camps', while similar have noticeable differences in the types of people in them) . By the end of summer, there will be faster Lancers and faster Imprezas. (that includes STIs, n00bs). The next Shootout, my car will be back from Painting and pushing constant 11 sec time slips. Not fast, but fun enough.
