I also was recently reflashed for FREE to add pop coverage to my V1. Customer support is tops bar-none with Valentine.
I spoke to a few Air Force pilots about the V1. They use it in many of their trainers for dog fight simulation. If it's good enough to detect a sidewinder missle, it's good enough to detect a cop.

Or you can put it into 'expert mode' where it shows what type of band is setting the detector off, and how many there are, and how threatening they are. I think it can do up to eight at a time. So it could detect up to four Ka band and four K band at once. Or any configuration really.

The bar can be shorter, representing a less significant threat (I cannot remember if the band strength is measured in thirds or halves on the screen).
, who cares how many Walmarts or CVSs are are on which side of the road? I don't need any silly arrows to point out shopping centers to me, I can see them quite easily... With the Passport, it's very easy to judge which of a number of threats should be taken seriously when using "expert mode". Oh yeah, you don't have to be an expert to use it either. It's actually quite simple to use. And yes, if a cop hides with his radar gun in a place where there are false bogies, the display will definitely tell you that there are unusual signals in the area so you can watch out. The biggest difference between the V1 and the Passport is that the V1 drove me crazy with the false alarms. I had to turn it off or just ignore everything. Not too good
.... IMHO, the arrows are not very useful other than to point out that there are several sources of radar signals. The very same thing that the Passport does more simply and for far less money.

V1 is overrated, for its price, not saying that it's bad, my friend has one. like someone else said, bel rx65 wins on 2 outta 3 reviews and that's what i bought for like $230 on ebay. V1 as ppl pointed out gives too many false positives and i seriously don't see the need for the arrows, if it goes off, u should slow down and be alert, no need to speed by a walmart even if it's nothing more than a door opener setting it off. i have X band on because from what i've read, in NJ cops still use it. instant on will pWn j00 no matter what radar detector u have anyway. in my bel u can set the display so that it shows threat level for each band as a number next to that band, imo that's easier to read than a bar. oh and navy radars here make the laser band go NUTS! lol. either way, i still try not to speed excessively, i drive even slower than i used to in my teg couple years ago, common sense and vigilance will be ur best protector.
Escort Passport X50 has saved my *** so many times. Sometimes it works too good, meaning it will go off literally a mile or 2 away, and after awhile u think it is a misfire then the cop shows up.
I did exstensive research before I bought it and it beats the overrated V1 plus it is cheaper. I highly recommend it.

^ Agree except I have the Bel RX65, Looking to give that to the wife and try out the Passport X50. Than I'll decided what one I'll keep for myself. But no intrest in the V1 after doing the research.
For what its worth I've owned all three. x50, rx65, and now the V1. The RX-65 was a piece of crap I bought it on ebay this might be why, however it falsed on everything. I would take a nice cruise on the interstate and I would get just random pop / laser warnings. this is very dangerous so I promptly sold it.
next I tried the x50 with blue display. not bad however the blue was bad on the eyes at night and it was not loud enough for me. as far as falsing it was leap years beyond the rx-65. it has a terrible built in laser warning, it is a tone set for preset time. meaning if you get hit with laser it will keep alerting you for 8 seconds after you have stopped being targeted.
the V1 is by far the best detector I have ever tested. The arrows are addicting, the bogey counter is very handy once you get the hang of it, and the tones are very easy to make out. the Ka range is incredible and it never falses on highway driving which means alot. the x50 could pick up a local steady ka band at about 1 mile. the V1 is picking it up 2.3 miles out and holding it for almost 2.1 miles with the rear antenna which is incredible.
as for city falsing its so easy to fix all you have to do is program the K band to be automuted I use the default for 10 seconds and it will give you an inital alert then mute its self down. I also have it set to unmute after 4 bars just to be sure.
there is a reason alot of the tests you read always favor the x50 and rx-65. why? because the people doing the tests have it in there best interest to promote the items they can sell. the v1 can only be sold through Valentine so these people doing the tests have no reason to call it a winner when they cant profit from it? and those tests are over a year old now since then V1 has released 1.8 with pop2.
I challenge you to see the videos for yourself http://www.jammertests.com/ these have no bias and will show you the real answers.
the rx-65 was a joke and I hated it. the x50 was meh ok, and the V1 is god.
for more proof trying logging on to www.radardetector.net and read for yourself!
it helps when the people doing the reviews dont sell the products!

) arrows. The only thing in which the V1 excels is in costing more money
OK, I ordered and got a Bel Pro RX65 detector.... So far I think it works very well. I'm wondering wether these are made by the same people who make the Passport 8500?
The coiled cord plug is exactly like the Passport. The only difference I can see is the small name decal... They use the exact same phone type plugs and even the windshield mounts are identical.....
So far, I've tried them side by side and the first thing I notice is that they definitely do not interfere with each other's functioning
. The new RX65 appears to have a little more sensitivity than the older Passport to some K band signals but sometimes ignores others. Of course, the only things I've detected have been automatic doors and such. except for a few weak KA signals (apparently they were far away, perhaps on a parallell road).
I'll continue to test them and see if they work equally when the radar cops are out. I suspect they'll be similar paerformance wise but this remains to be determined. Here are some pictures of the two units in my car.

hmm.. that is interesting. But I doubt Bel or Passport make their own plugs. Or windshield attachments. Probably outsourced. But the fact that both parts are the same. But to be sure you'd have to crack them open and look at the boards and/or chips.
I have a really old Bel. Still works great. Not too many cops have to latest and greatest, tho I'm taking a chance if one of them does. I've been thinking about getting the passport. I have a friend who has the V1 and he used it in my car along with the Bel and the Bel was causing it to go off non-stop. And He says it does false a lot in the city.
Red is better for night vision than blue. I believe (and the pilots can confirm this--I only know how to build the planes, I don't fly them) pilots use red map lights in the cockpit. Doesnt the blue one cost more? Why pay more for something harder on the eyes.
